Alternative St. Petersburg: Rooftops, Grand Entrances, Lofts, and Bridges
St. Petersburg in May is always a special journey. There are May holidays and City Day – plenty of events! In this article, we'll tell you about alternative places in the city on the Neva, so your trip is unforgettable and exciting, and you'll have stories to tell your grandchildren in old age.
Rooftops and Grand Entrances
St. Petersburg is convenient to view from the ground, but also from above. For this purpose, groups have appeared on social media with addresses of open rooftops or offers for tours. We do not recommend climbing rooftops on your own, you never know what might happen. But going on a tour with a knowledgeable guide is a good idea. It's not just cool photos, but also a bit of history about the city.

The same applies to grand entrances. Calling some grand entrances mere 'entrances' is simply impossible. Stucco, sculptures, ornate railings, and unusual lighting – living in such a house is like living in a museum. Very atmospheric. Sign up for such a tour in the city center, as some 'guides' even show apartments in these houses. Usually, these types of tours are in the same group as rooftop tours, so pay close attention.

Tourist Transport
If the weather suddenly turns bad – which can happen, or you're just tired – use tourist transport. The red double-decker Hop-on Hop-off buses are the best solution. See ticket prices on the website, as well as bus routes and other information.
Another good option would be a boat trip, but that's for good weather. There are plenty of rivers and canals in the city, and it's always interesting to be on the other side of the embankment. There are even night programs to watch the bridges being drawn from a boat, rather than from the embankment. To get on a boat, come to the Fontanka River embankment near Nevsky Prospekt – there are booths there, you can't miss them. Or look for information online in advance.

Creative Spaces
In the Northern Capital, there are many creative spaces where you can get lost and completely forget which city you're in – that's how cool they are. If you're a keen fan of aesthetics and atmosphere, you'll definitely like it there. Check out Sevkabel Port and the LenExpo pavilions – there are interesting exhibitions, good street art, lights, benches, and a view of the bay.

The loft project Etazhi on Ligovsky Prospekt will also delight with its shops, and there are also exhibitions of corgis, foxes, and even raccoons, and you can go out onto the roof.
Street Art Museum will not leave any tourist indifferent. Corners of the vast territory are painted with meaning, there are walking tours, but you can also wander around on your own.
Another spot recently appeared – Third Place. A mansion on Liteyny Prospekt where lectures and other events are held. Follow their Instagram page, to stay updated on upcoming events.
Streets and Courtyards
Even just walking through the streets, you can stumble upon interesting courtyards and alleys. We'll tell you right away where exactly you should look.
- Mosaic Courtyard, Tchaikovsky St., 2
- Parisian Courtyard, Cosmonauts Ave., 63
- Fairy Tale Courtyard, Zhukovsky St., 6
