Filming Locations for Game of Thrones Season 8
The agonizing wait will soon be over — the final season of “Game of Thrones” is about to be released. Even if you're not familiar with ice and fire, only watched a couple of episodes of the first season and didn't like it, this article will still be relevant. We're talking about the filming locations of the long-awaited season and suggest following in the footsteps of the Mother of Dragons.
Not much was added to the city for the series, so it's almost identical to the on-screen version. So, grab your most beautiful dress and go take photos in the atmospheric old town and on the coastal cliffs.

Northern Ireland
Oh, this is a favorite spot for screenwriters, as some scenes from the first season were filmed in Belfast. Not far from this city is Magheramorne Quarry, where the sets for Castle Black and the Wall were created. And 65 km from Belfast airport is an avenue with intertwined beech trees, The Dark Hedges. It also appeared in the series in the early seasons. If you're in these parts, sign up for a tour of the Paint Hall studio — that's where the team worked the most. Just make sure to book in advance, a month or two ahead.
Iceland
The landscapes of this country have appeared in many films; sometimes Icelandic volcanoes were even presented to viewers as another planet, which says a lot. The nature there is unlike Earth's! Our series was no exception; everywhere you look, there are familiar places. There's Grjótagjá cave, where Jon Snow and Ygritte had their rendezvous, and there's Svínafellsjökull glacier — where the battle with the White Walkers was filmed. It's no surprise that the series returned to Iceland, as we waited 7 seasons for winter, and it has finally arrived. And where else to film it if not on snow-covered glaciers?
Spain
This country also appeared in earlier seasons — the kingdom of Dorne was filmed there. Its role was played by the small town of Santiponce near Seville. And do you remember Dragonstone, where the Targaryen castle is located? That's the islet of San Juan de Gaztelugatxe on the edge of the country near Bilbao. On this island stands a small chapel, and a path of 237 steps leads to it. That's where the King in the North and the fiery Daenerys first met. Recognize it? Walking up such a staircase, contemplating the fate of your homeland, and making a couple of important decisions, is like becoming a character in the series.
Croatia
Everyone already knows where King's Landing is — in Dubrovnik. But that's no reason to skip the city on your vacation. The climate is pleasant, the Adriatic Sea is at your feet, and the scenery is top-notch. You might even see a member of the Royal Guard in armor or a nun shouting "Shame!" around the corner.
