I’m fine with it: places for solo travel

E
Evgenia

A solo trip is not a sentence, but a gift. It’s not always possible to find a travel companion, but you shouldn’t postpone a trip to your dream city because of it. Everyone should try traveling alone at least once in their life. There are plenty of advantages: you don’t need to coordinate routes to please everyone, and if you want to watch the sunrise or go to a local club in the middle of the night, no one will bother or grumble. All roads are open, all that’s left is to pack your backpack. And we’ll tell you where to escape alone so you don’t get bored.

Warsaw, Poland

By no means limit yourself to the city. Yes, there’s a lot to see on the cobblestone streets, but you can’t ignore the mountains. At Warsaw’s main station, take a train to Zakopane. The Tatras are a good place to be alone with yourself.

Gothenburg, Sweden

Sweden is not just Stockholm. The country has many hidden gems, such as Gothenburg. Prices are a bit lower there, there are fewer people, and just as much beauty—perfect! Here is the largest amusement park in Scandinavia — Liseberg. If a wild child sleeps within you, feel free to dedicate a day to the rides. This will set a good mood for the trip or perfectly conclude it.

Tbilisi, Georgia

Everyone knows about Georgia’s hospitality and that you won’t get bored there. Mountains, lakes, delicious food and wine, people — all in one place! If circumstances led you to come here alone, don’t despair, you’ll definitely leave with new contacts.

Dublin, Ireland

Here’s an option for those who are good with English. It’s generally hard to get bored in Dublin, but if you really want to chat with someone, just pop into any pub. The Irish are cheerful and talkative, so company won’t keep you waiting long. If you want to make foreign friends to visit later, you won’t find a better place. Besides the colorful pubs, visit the botanical garden, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Phoenix Park with its zoo, the Guinness brewery, or the whiskey museum. It’s not guaranteed you’ll find a pot of gold, but you’ll definitely feel like a leprechaun.

Dubrovnik, Croatia

Dubrovnik is one of the filming locations for the famous series. Strolling through cherished spots with a bell and cries of “Shame!”, savoring the medieval atmosphere, standing on a tower awaiting a ship, hosting a feast with a view of the Adriatic Sea — it’s fun and real even without a crowd of friends. And to escape the crowds of fans, head to the old town of Pile. Live there for a bit — that way you’ll feel the difference. The locals are friendly and quiet, not bothering you with trifles. Want to lie on the beach all day? No problem. The region has many paid and free beaches, equally great, by the way.

What not to forget

When traveling solo, vigilance is at its maximum. There’s no one to watch your luggage or rented bicycle while you buy coffee or go to the restroom. Keep your eyes peeled and look around, don’t leave personal belongings with strangers, don’t accept drinks from them. Friendliness is one thing, but there are plenty of scammers everywhere.
