Budget Airlines in Europe
Europe has a fairly large number of budget airlines. Some low-cost carriers are predominantly regional, while others fly not only across Europe but also worldwide, and their route network can be envied by any standard airline. Here is a list of budget airlines based in Europe:
- Aer Arann (Ireland) Flights within Ireland, as well as from Ireland to England, Scotland, the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man, and France.
- Air Baltic (Lithuania-Latvia) The airline is based in Riga and Vilnius, from where planes fly to almost all major cities in Europe, Western and Central Asia, as well as to Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, and Libya.
- Air Berlin (Germany) Flights within Germany, as well as from Germany to most European countries, to major cities in Western and Southeast Asia, Southern and Northern Africa, Australia, and the USA.
- Air Finland (Finland) Flights within Finland from Helsinki, as well as to France, Italy, Greece, UAE, and Spain.
- Air One (Italy) Flies to many cities in Southern Europe, as well as to London, Amsterdam, Prague, Kyiv, and from May 2012 to Saint Petersburg.
- ArkeFly (Netherlands) Operates routes from Holland to Spain, Italy, Croatia, Macedonia, Turkey, Greece, Nepal, UAE, Kenya, Gambia, Tunisia, Canada, and the Caribbean islands.
- Atlas Jet (Turkey) Operates flights within Turkey (Istanbul, Antalya, Izmir, Dalaman); among international routes, there are only flights to London.
- Blue1 (Finland) Routes from Finland (Helsinki) to many destinations in Europe; additionally, Blue1 flies to Moscow, China, Thailand, and Japan.
- Blue Air (Romania) Operates flights between Romania and Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Belgium, Great Britain, Ireland, and Cyprus.
- Blu-Express (Italy) Flights from Italy to France, Germany, Greece, Spain, Turkey, as well as to the islands and countries of the Caribbean, to Egypt, Kenya, and Thailand.
- BMI Baby (United Kingdom) Flights between England and the Czech Republic, as well as to France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, Spain, the Netherlands, and Switzerland.
- City Jet (United Kingdom) Flights from England (base airport - London City Airport) to Belgium, France, Luxembourg, and Italy.
- Condor (Germany) Flights within Germany, as well as to many Scandinavian countries, Southern Europe, the USA, Canada, South America, the Indian Ocean region, and the Caribbean Sea.
- Corendon (Netherlands) Flights within Holland, and from the Netherlands to Bulgaria, Germany, Greece, Morocco, Turkey, and Ukraine.
- EasyJet (United Kingdom) Flights within the UK, as well as to almost all major cities in Western and Southern Europe, to Egypt, Israel, Morocco, and Turkey.
- German Wings (Germany) Operates flights from Germany to many European cities, as well as to Moscow, Turkey, Israel, Morocco, and Iceland.
- Helvetic Airways (Switzerland) Flights from Switzerland (Zurich and Bern) to Italy, Spain, Germany, and the United Kingdom.
- Iberia Express (Spain) A subsidiary of the Spanish airline Iberia, it started operations only this year. It flies predominantly within Spain (mainly resort destinations), as well as to Edinburgh, Dublin, Amsterdam, Riga, Naples, and Mykonos (Greece).
- Iceland Express (Iceland) Flights from Iceland to Denmark, Lithuania, Poland, Germany, the Czech Republic, France, the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, and Switzerland.
- InterSky (Germany) Flights within Germany, as well as from Germany to Italy, Switzerland, and Austria.
- Jet2 (United Kingdom) Operates flights from England and Scotland to many major cities in Western and Southern Europe, as well as to Poland, Israel, and the Canary Islands.
- Meridiana (Italy) Operates flights within Italy, to many European cities, North and South America, Africa, as well as to Moscow, Yerevan, Oman, Tel Aviv, and the Maldives.
- Monarch Airlines (United Kingdom) Flies to many European cities, the Canary Islands, Mexico, the USA, some Caribbean islands, Egypt, Kenya, Gambia, India, and the Maldives.
- Norwegian (Norway) Flights across Europe, with routes to many Scandinavian cities, as well as to Saint Petersburg.
- Niki (Austria) A subsidiary of AirBerlin, their route network is the same.
- Onur Air (Turkey) Operates flights predominantly within Turkey, although there are also several international flights to Azerbaijan and Ukraine.
- Pegasus Airlines (Turkey) Air tickets from Turkey to the United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland, Greece, France, Russia, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan.
- Ryanair (United Kingdom) One of the most famous budget airlines, operating flights to many European cities, as well as to Morocco.
- Scandjet (Sweden) Flights from Sweden and Poland to Denmark, Bosnia, and Croatia.
- Smart Wings (Czech Republic) Flights between the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, France, major cities in Southern Europe, as well as Turkey and Israel.
- Sun Express (Turkey) Flies from Turkey (Antalya) to Germany and the Netherlands, operates regional flights within Turkey.
- Thomsonfly (United Kingdom) Operates flights between England and major cities in Southern Europe and North Africa; additionally, it flies to Central America (Caribbean countries and islands).
- Transavia (Netherlands) The flight area of this airline is very extensive; Transavia flies to many major European cities, as well as to almost all resort cities in Turkey and Greece, to Iceland, Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, and the UAE.
- Vueling Airlines (Spain) Flies predominantly within Europe (England, France, Spain, Germany, Italy), also has flights to Russia (Moscow and St. Petersburg), as well as to Israel and Morocco.
- Volotea (Spain) A very new airline, Volotea started flights in early April 2012. It flies across Europe; currently, its route network includes 18 cities.
- Windjet (Italy) Flies predominantly within Italy. There are flights to Spain, France, Romania, Germany, the Czech Republic, Ukraine (Kyiv), and Russia (Moscow, Saint Petersburg, and Rostov).
- Wizz Air (Hungary) Wizz Air has several base airports; its route network covers almost all major European cities. It is worth noting that one of the hubs is located in Ukraine, in Kyiv and Lviv.
- XL Airways (France) Operates flights from Paris to the USA, the Caribbean region, and the Maldives.
