Do tickets get cheaper before departure?
We have already written so much about cheap tickets, how to find them, shared secrets and life hacks. But the topic is so vast that we decided to dedicate a separate article to this question.
So, do tickets get cheaper before departure?
There is no definitive yes or no answer to this question. In most cases - no.
It's simple to explain. As we have already written, airlines manage prices using a special program that analyzes hundreds of factors and, in the process of analysis, determines which fares to open for sale and when.
Most passengers buy tickets shortly before departure, often less than a week. Therefore, lowering the price before departure is unprofitable; tickets will be bought anyway. This rule works 100% for popular destinations, especially during peak season.
But not all destinations are equally popular. If demand for a flight is low, the chance that the airline will lower the price before departure is much higher. But don't expect the discount to be significant.
If you need to fly on specific dates, it's better to buy tickets in advance, 1-3 months beforehand. The more popular the destination, the earlier you should buy tickets.
For example, for popular ski resorts, cheap tickets can be found 6-8 months before departure, here the rule "prepare your sleigh in summer" works one hundred percent.
