Where to relax by the sea

So, let's take advantage of the velvet season to swim in the warm sea and get an even tan. Here are five ready-made options.

Abkhazia

A country just a stone's throw from Krasnodar Krai (to be precise, 155 km from Sochi). In early September, the air temperature on the coast can warm up to +30 degrees, while by the end of the month, the thermometer consistently shows around +17 degrees. If the beaches of Pitsunda or Gagra appeal to you, buy tickets for a flight to Sochi and head to Abkhazia for sunbathing. Also, visit the popular Lake Ritsa — such beauty should not go unnoticed. 

Entry requirements

You should come here if you've explored all of Adler and already know better than anyone where to go in Sochi. No visa is required for entry; you can enter the country with both a Russian and a foreign passport. 

Turkey

A classic that never disappoints. Turkey is washed by four seas: the Mediterranean, Black, Aegean, and Marmara, so there are many options for recreation. The average daytime temperature on the Turkish coast is around +27 degrees, so all that's left is to choose the most comfortable city for you. 

Want to relax on the Mediterranean coast? Buy a ticket for a flight to Antalya. Never been to the Aegean Sea? Then you need to fly to Bodrum. To relax on the beaches of the Marmara Sea, choose a ticket to Istanbul — there are also other interesting sights here. 

Entry requirements

You need a foreign passport that will be valid for at least another 120 days. A visa is not required if you are visiting Turkey for less than 60 days. 

Egypt

When will I go to Egypt? In September! After all, the air temperature here in early autumn does not drop below +30 degrees. So, all that's left is to choose between the Mediterranean and Red Seas. 

If you want to bask on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, head to Alexandria. At the same time, if you wish, after a lazy beach holiday, you can visit El Giza to photograph the pyramids. For those who want to swim in the waters of the Red Sea, we recommend getting to Sharm El Sheikh or Hurghada. 

Entry requirements

You need a foreign passport that is valid for at least six months. Upon arrival, a 30-day visa is issued, which costs $25. 

UAE

A holiday in the United Arab Emirates will cost you a pretty penny, but it will definitely stay in your memory forever. Arriving in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the UAE, you can count on both paid and free beaches with a “Blue Flag” award for cleanliness. 

On Dubai's most popular free beach, Marina, sun loungers and umbrellas are available. Of course, cafes and some amenities for a comfortable stay are paid, but no one will forbid you from basking in the sun on your own blanket. There's also a picturesque panorama of the world's largest Ferris wheel.

Entry requirements

For entry, you will only need a foreign passport that will be valid for at least six months. In addition, medical insurance for all travel dates will be required. A visa will not be needed if you travel to the UAE for less than 90 days. 

Thailand

In September, the rainy season ends in Thailand, and the air temperature still reaches +30 degrees. The cleanest waters of the Gulf of Thailand and white sandy beaches are available upon arrival in Koh Samui. We recommend coming here to those who love secluded holidays or have planned a trip with a loved one. 

For fans of an active lifestyle, we advise buying tickets to Pattaya. This resort is a paradise for party-goers: it has bars and nightclubs. Just be aware that Pattaya will be crowded, and the water near the shore on the peninsula is dirtier. However, you can travel from the bustling area to the islands for a peaceful beach holiday.

You need a foreign passport and return tickets. A visa will not be required if you are staying in Thailand for less than 30 days. 

Holidays in Russia in September

Want to explore new territories and are planning an autumn holiday in Russia? Then you can visit the following regions.

Dagestan

Ascents to the mountains of the North Caucasus, rich history and culture, as well as relaxation on the Caspian Sea coast are all available in one region — Dagestan. Here you will experience the hospitality of local residents, try national Caucasian dishes, and take your best photos. By the way, in autumn, the mountains, covered with trees with crimson and reddish leaves, will make a great backdrop for any shot. 

Important note: respect the culture of the region, do not behave provocatively, and wear modest clothing. The residents of Dagestan are Muslims, and they are very reverent about their religion.

Buy tickets for flights Moscow — Makhachkala or Saint Petersburg — Makhachkala. 

Krasnodar Krai

A region that is always with you if you want to go to the sea. The Black Sea coast in Krasnodar Krai is best visited in September. The thermometer reaches an average of +25 degrees — an optimal temperature for both swimming and strolling along the embankments. 

We also recommend visiting Krasnodar, the capital of Kuban. In the city, you will find the best restaurants with national cuisine, exciting museums, and Galitsky Park. 

How to get there

Currently, there are no direct flights to Krasnodar. You can only fly to Sochi from Moscow and Saint Petersburg.

Stavropol Krai

Mineral waters, fresh air, and picturesque mountains — these are the three pillars on which Stavropol Krai rests. If you want to experience all three at once, then you definitely need to go to a sanatorium for a complete rest. For those who love active pursuits, we recommend compiling a list of “What to see on Elbrus” in advance and conquering new peaks in every sense. Just make sure to ascend with knowledgeable instructors, as Russia's highest mountain is quite a serious peak.

There are two airports available in Stavropol Krai, so you can fly to Stavropol or to Mineralnye Vody. 

Karelia

We leave the southern regions to visit the northern ones. In Karelia, of course, the temperature in September will be lower (around +17 degrees), but this will not prevent you from calmly walking through Ruskeala Park and Kizhi Island. A special kind of pleasure for those who love extreme sports is rafting. So if you want to try it, be sure to come and raft down the Shuya or Keret rivers.

Buy a ticket to Petrozavodsk from Moscow or Saint Petersburg.

Near Abroad

Armenia

Armenia is a country of ancient monasteries, cozy settlements, and hospitable residents. You can come here at least to enjoy the mountain air and ride the world's longest cable car, “Wings of Tatev”. In September, you'll catch the singing fountains of “Cascade” and climb its steps to take photos against the picturesque panorama of Yerevan. In 2025, Yerevan remains a major hub for travelers. Therefore, if you're flying with a layover to other countries, be sure to set aside a couple of days to see the most interesting sights.

Armenia is easily accessible with both a Russian internal passport and a foreign passport.  

Georgia

Not eating the best khinkali in September? Not us! People come to Georgia not only for the most delicious food but also for walks through picturesque natural attractions. To relax by the sea, you should go to hospitable Batumi, and on the border with Russia, you can admire the snowy peaks of Mount Kazbek. In the country's capital, Tbilisi, be sure to visit the Old Town — the architecture here will definitely impress you.

Currently, you can fly directly from Moscow on a flight to Tbilisi in about three hours. 

What documents are needed for entry

Only a foreign passport. You can stay in Georgia without a visa for up to a year.

Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan is a great solution for those who want to try kazy and visit unforgettable natural places. Upon arrival in Almaty, we recommend heading to the Kapchagay Reservoir, and after relaxing by the water, move on to the Altyn-Emel National Park. That's where you'll definitely see landscapes like on Mars! In Astana, the country's capital, be sure to visit the Hazret Sultan Mosque, the Bayterek Tower, and the “Museum of the Future”. The average temperature in Kazakhstan in September is around +15 degrees, so bring some warm clothes.

By plane from Moscow to Almaty or to Astana. From Saint Petersburg, you will have to fly with a layover.

You can enter with an internal passport — a foreign passport will not be required. 

Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan is a country where you can see unique architecture and have a great time relaxing on the Caspian Sea. Tourists fly to the capital, Baku, to visit the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum, admire the architecture of the Old City, and take photos against the backdrop of the Flame Towers. In September, the season for the most delicious berries and fruits begins here, so be sure to come for a vitamin boost before winter.

Only a foreign passport valid for at least three months will be needed. A visa is not required if you plan to stay in Azerbaijan for more than 90 days.

Greece

Rich culture, picturesque nature, and some of the best beaches. The latter, by the way, we definitely recommend visiting in September: this month the temperature here is ideal for relaxation — an average of about +28 degrees. In Rhodes, it's easy to find a holiday for any budget, but for a vacation in Mykonos or Santorini, you'll have to splurge. We assure you, any resort will delight both fans of strolling through cozy streets and those who want to achieve a perfect tan.

You can only get from Moscow to Athens or from Saint Petersburg to Rhodes with a layover in Turkey.

You will need a foreign passport that will be valid for at least three months after returning from Greece. In addition, a Schengen visa and medical insurance with coverage of 30,000 euros are required. 

Cyprus

You should come to Cyprus in September at least for the purest waters of the Mediterranean Sea and white sandy beaches. The island is literally made for those who didn't manage to take a summer vacation but want to swim and get a tan. Besides cool national parks with unique plant and animal species, we recommend paying attention to the architecture of ancient monasteries and churches. 

By the way, party-goers love to come to Ayia Napa, a city on the southeastern coast of Cyprus, to have a blast and experience all the delights of the nightlife in bars and clubs. So the main task when planning your vacation is to choose a city that suits your taste.

There are currently no direct flights to Cyprus. You can fly from Moscow to Larnaca or to Paphos with layovers in Armenia.

You will need a foreign passport that is valid for at least three months after leaving the country, as well as a national Cyprus visa or a Schengen visa. 

Montenegro

Montenegro is a great solution for those who are used to traveling with the motto “everything everywhere at once”. Want to climb a mountain? Please. Planning to spend your entire vacation by a lake with a book? Easy! Want to go with children to the Adriatic Sea? No problem at all. We also highly recommend visiting the city of Kotor, going to the church on Our Lady of the Rocks island, and appreciating the architecture of Podgorica, the capital of Montenegro. 

How to get there

You can only fly from Moscow to Podgorica or to Tivat with layovers in Turkey. 

What documents are needed for entry

Only a valid foreign passport will be needed. If you plan to stay in Montenegro for less than 30 days, a visa will not be required. 

Serbia

Perhaps one of the most popular destinations in 2025. In Serbia, Russian tourists are loved and awaited all year round — locals will warmly tell you about the most secret places with the best food and interesting entertainment in the city. In September, the average temperature in Serbia is around +20 degrees, which is very comfortable for long walks around Belgrade. Here we recommend strolling through Belgrade Fortress, Republic Square, and Zemun Quay. If you decide to embark on a journey across the country, and not limit yourself to just relaxing in Belgrade, head to Subotica. This city on the border with Hungary resembles a gingerbread house: cute buildings with painted facades, welcoming residents, and a cozy atmosphere. And of course, what would it be without natural attractions? Be sure to visit Tara National Park, the Uvac River Canyon, and Zlatibor — an area with endless meadows and old churches.

You can only fly to Belgrade from Moscow with a layover in Turkey.

A foreign passport will definitely be needed. If you are entering Serbia for a period of up to 30 days, you do not need a visa.
