The building houses ticket counters where travel documents can be purchased for cash (Albanian Lek). A spacious waiting hall with seating is provided for waiting passengers, sheltering them from the sun and rain.

There are public restrooms on the premises, though the level of comfort may be modest. Modern amenities, such as high-speed Wi-Fi or charging stations, may be absent at the station itself, so we recommend arranging connectivity and charging your gadgets in advance. Directly inside the station building, food options may be limited to small kiosks selling beverages and snacks. However, thanks to the central location, you will find numerous establishments just a few steps from the exit. Be sure to try the local byrek with cheese or meat at one of the nearby bakeries — this is a hearty and inexpensive option for a quick bite before your journey.

For a more substantial meal, it is worth walking towards Rruga Adria or towards the port, where cafes and restaurants serving Italian and Albanian cuisine are located. The average bill for a cup of excellent espresso coffee here is very reasonable, and the quality of the drink is traditionally high.

The history of Durres Railway Station is inextricably linked to the development of the Albanian railway network, which began in the mid-20th century. The first line, connecting Durres and Peqin, was opened in 1947, becoming a symbol of the country's post-war reconstruction and industrialisation. For a long time, the station served as the main gateway for rail cargo and passengers arriving from the sea.

In recent decades, the building and tracks have experienced various periods, from prosperity to a temporary decline in activity in the 90s. Currently, the station is an important element of plans for the modernisation of the transport system, aimed at improving connections between Durres, Tirana, and the international airport, while preserving its historical architectural appearance.
