What to Do

The main reason to visit Botanical is for its unique cocktail tasting experience. The menu here is updated every two months to reflect the changing seasons. You can try original takes on classics, such as the Sgroppino with cherry and champagne, as well as experimental drinks like Révélation, which features vodka, peas, and mint. For those who prefer non-alcoholic options, exquisite mocktails are always available.

Be sure to pay attention to the ingredients: many of the herbs and fruits are grown in the owners' own garden. This makes the flavor of the drinks truly vibrant and unexpected—you might even find white asparagus or parsley in your glass. To accompany your cocktails, order some light snacks: crispy nachos with chili oil or fresh spring rolls.

Beyond the gastronomic pleasures, it's simply a lovely place to enjoy the moment. You can sit at the large communal bar to watch the bartenders at work or choose a secluded corner with soft furniture. During the summer months, a small, cozy terrace opens up, allowing you to feel the rhythm of the city in the evening.

Getting There

You can find Botanical in the heart of the historic center, at Rue des Brasseurs 46. The establishment is located within walking distance of the city's main squares; for example, a walk from Place d'Armes takes only a couple of minutes. The compactness of the old town makes this spot an ideal finishing point for an evening route.

If you are arriving by public transport, look for the Namur Gare railway station. From there, you can walk to the bar in 15–20 minutes while enjoying the city’s architecture, or take a local bus. For those who prefer comfort, a taxi ride from the station will take no more than 5 minutes.

For travelers by car, keep in mind that parking in the city center can be difficult, especially in the evening. It is recommended to leave your car at one of the park-and-ride lots or use public transport to fully enjoy the cocktail menu.

History & Facts

The story of Botanical began in 2018 when spouses Charlotte Guilliams and Valentin Norberg decided to fulfill their dream. They found an abandoned building on Rue des Brasseurs and transformed it into a stylish space almost entirely by hand. To prepare the premises, they had to remove 42 truckloads of trash, working without the help of any bank loans.

Opening a cocktail bar in Namur was a bold move. In a region where beer traditionally dominates, the concept of mixology with an emphasis on herbs seemed risky. However, the founders focused on locality: they still source many ingredients from their own "forest garden," which belongs to Valentin's mother.

Since its opening, the establishment has constantly evolved. While the menu used to be updated strictly every four weeks, the owners have now moved to a two-month cycle, giving them more time for creative experimentation. This approach has paid off: the bar quickly gained recognition and was included in the prestigious The World’s 50 Best Bars Discovery list.

Time Needed

To fully appreciate the skill of the local bartenders and enjoy the atmosphere, it is worth setting aside 1 to 2 hours for your visit. This is plenty of time to leisurely taste a couple of signature cocktails and try some light snacks.

If you are planning a visit with a group of friends on a Friday or Saturday, time can fly by, and you might want to stay longer. It is recommended to arrive early to snag a comfortable spot on the velvet banquettes or the cozy terrace during the warmer months.

Working Hours

The establishment welcomes guests from Tuesday to Saturday. Monday and Sunday are closing days. The standard opening time is 5:00 PM, while on Saturdays, the bar starts a bit earlier at 3:30 PM. On weekdays, the doors are open until midnight, and on Friday and Saturday, until 1:00 AM.

The schedule may change depending on public holidays, so before visiting, it is recommended to check the bar's official website for the most up-to-date information.
