History & Facts

The history of the Parma Shopping and Entertainment Center is inextricably linked to its predecessor—the cinema of the same name, which was once an iconic spot for the residents of Syktyvkar. The Parma cinema was built in 1969 based on the standard 264-13-1 design, specifically developed by the Central Research and Design Institute of Entertainment Buildings and Sports Facilities (TsNIIEP). A team of talented architects—M. Bubnov, V. Lazarev, I. Semeykin, and E. Ter-Stepanov—worked on its creation, with engineering solutions implemented by V. Nemirovsky. The project itself was approved by the State Committee for Civil Engineering and Architecture under the USSR State Construction Committee back on January 30, 1965, highlighting its importance at the time.

After the old cinema was demolished, something quite unusual happened on its site—a small lake formed. Over time, this body of water began to grow over with grass, creating a unique natural corner in the middle of the city. However, this transformation was temporary. In 2012, a new chapter in the history of this site began: the construction of a modern shopping and entertainment center started, destined to inherit the famous name.

The grand opening of the new Parma TRC was originally planned for November 2014, but as often happens with large-scale projects, the deadlines were pushed back. The official opening took place on March 26, 2015, and from that moment on, Parma once again became a center of attraction for the citizens and guests of Syktyvkar. Retaining the historical name Parma was a tribute to the beloved cinema, ensuring continuity between generations and preserving a piece of the city's history in a new, modern form.

Time Needed

The time needed to visit the Parma Shopping and Entertainment Center in Syktyvkar largely depends on your plans and interests. If your goal is a quick shopping trip to a few specific stores or buying groceries at the Magnit hypermarket, 1-2 hours might be enough. During this time, you can visit the sections you're interested in and make the necessary purchases.

However, if you're planning a more thorough visit, including a leisurely look at the windows of over 90 stores, trying on clothes, or choosing cosmetics or appliances, you should set aside at least 2-3 hours. Add to this time for lunch or dinner at one of the restaurants or the food court, and the length of your stay will increase by another hour or an hour and a half.

For those who want to combine shopping with entertainment, such as watching a movie at the 6-screen Sky Cinema, you will need about another 2-3 hours (including the screening itself and waiting time). Thus, for a full day out at Parma with shopping, food, and a movie, you could easily spend half a day or even more, depending on your pace and the richness of your program.
