Reaching Gävle Central Station is effortless, as it is situated in the very heart of the city's transport system.
On foot: You can reach the station from the main town square (Stortorget) in a leisurely 5–8 minute walk by following Drottninggatan. The building is clearly visible and serves as an excellent landmark.
Public transport: A bus terminal is located directly next to the railway station. City and regional buses operated by X-trafik stop here, ensuring a convenient transfer from the train to local transport.
Taxi: An official taxi rank is located right at the exit of the main building on the Centralplan square side.

Station History
The history of railway transport in this region dates back to the 19th century. The current Gävle Central Station building was inaugurated in 1877. The project was designed by the renowned architect Adolf W. Edelsvärd, who created numerous railway stations across Sweden.
The building was constructed to replace the old station in order to cope with the growing flow of cargo and passengers associated with rapid industrialisation and the development of metallurgy. Over the years, the station has been renovated multiple times but has preserved its historic external appearance, remaining an important symbol of the city of Gävle.
Passenger Tips
Tickets: It is highly recommended to purchase tickets in advance via mobile apps or the carrier's website. On most Swedish trains, buying a ticket from the conductor is impossible or incurs a significant surcharge.
Boarding: Arrive at the station at least 15 minutes before departure. Trains in Sweden run strictly according to schedule, and doors close 30–60 seconds before departure.
Luggage: If you are travelling with heavy luggage, use the lifts to descend into the tunnel and ascend to the platforms. Ramps are convenient but can be steep.
Safety: During the night, when trains are not running, the station building is closed. Please plan your wait for night transfers in advance, as remaining inside the waiting hall until morning is not permitted.
