Navigation within the station is intuitive: the main entrance leads to the central waiting hall, which provides access to the platforms. Thanks to the station's compact size, transferring from buses (the bus station is located nearby) to trains takes just a few minutes. The platforms are equipped with electronic displays and covered areas that protect against wind and precipitation, making waiting comfortable in any weather.

How to Get There

The station is conveniently located within the city limits, making it easily accessible for travellers. The simplest way to arrive from the centre is on foot. A walk from the main square (Stora Torget) will take no more than 10–15 minutes; follow the signs towards the waterfront and Järnvägsgatan street.

The station functions as a unified Travel Centre (Resecentrum), so the majority of city and regional buses arrive here. The stop is located in immediate proximity to the railway tracks. For those who prefer a taxi, the taxi stand is located right at the exit of the station building; a trip from any point in the city will take 5–10 minutes.

Services and Amenities

Härnösand Station offers a basic but sufficient range of services. Inside the building, there is a heated waiting hall with comfortable benches where you can take shelter from the weather. There are no staffed ticket counters here, so self-service machines are installed for purchasing travel documents (accepting bank cards only).

Passengers can utilize free Wi-Fi for work or entertainment. The station has public toilets (entrance fee applies, card payment) and automatic luggage lockers of various sizes for carry-on bags. Special lifts and wide passageways are provided for citizens with reduced mobility.

Where to Eat

Directly in the station building or adjacent to it, there is usually a Pressbyrån convenience store. Here you can quickly buy hot coffee, fresh pastries (including the famous Swedish cinnamon buns), sandwiches, hot snacks, and treats for the road. The average bill for a light snack will be around 50–70 SEK.

If time permits, we recommend taking a walk along the adjacent street, Järnvägsgatan. A 5–10 minute walk away, there are city cafes and restaurants offering more substantial lunches, pizza, and local cuisine in a relaxed setting.

Station History

The historical building of Härnösand Station, built in the late 19th century, is an architectural monument reflecting the era of the railway boom in Sweden. Its brick masonry and characteristic style make it a recognizable landmark of the urban environment.

The newest chapter in the station's history began with the opening of the high-speed Botniabanan line in 2010. This large-scale modernization transformed the quiet station into an important hub on the route connecting northern Sweden with Stockholm, significantly reducing travel time and increasing passenger flow.

Passenger Tips

It is recommended to arrive at the station 15–20 minutes before the train departs, as stop times can be short. Watch the information displays closely: the track number (Spår) may change shortly before the train arrives.

In winter, the open platforms can be very windy and cold, so please dress warmly. It is more cost-effective and reliable to buy tickets online in advance, as there are no cashiers at the station and machines may not accept cash. If you are planning an overnight transfer, please note that the waiting hall closes for the night.
