General Weather Overview

Fort Lauderdale boasts a delightful tropical climate that pleases with warmth all year round. It is an ideal place for those seeking sun and comfortable temperatures in almost any season. The city does not experience sharp temperature changes, making it attractive for beach holidays and outdoor activities throughout the year.

In Fort Lauderdale, two main seasons can be clearly traced. The summer period, lasting approximately from May to October, is characterized by hot and humid weather. Average daytime temperatures at this time range from 26°C to 28.5°C, and maximums can reach 30-31°C. This season is also the period with the highest rainfall, especially from June to September. The winter months, from November to April, bring drier and milder weather, with comfortable average temperatures around 20-24°C, making this time particularly popular among tourists.

One of the key features of Fort Lauderdale's climate is the distinct rainy season, which usually falls between June and September. During these months, a significant increase in the number of rainy days (up to 26-28 days per month) and total rainfall is observed. However, even during the wettest period, rains are often short-lived and refreshing, quickly giving way to sunny weather. Temperatures remain consistently high year-round, without significant cold spells.

Temperature

The temperature regime in Fort Lauderdale is distinguished by pleasant stability and warmth throughout the year. The annual range of average temperatures fluctuates from 20.4°C in January to 28.5°C in July and August, which are the hottest months. During these peak summer months, the maximum air temperature regularly rises to 31.4°C, and nights remain very warm, with a minimum temperature of around 25.5-25.7°C. The coolest month is considered to be January, when the average minimum temperature drops to 16.8°C, and the daily maximum reaches a comfortable 24.1°C.

The summer months, from May to October, in Fort Lauderdale are characterized by truly hot weather. Monthly average temperatures during this period confidently stay above 26°C (ranging from 26.4°C in May and October to 28.5°C in July and August). During the day, the thermometer often rises to 29.0°C - 31.4°C, creating ideal conditions for a beach holiday, although the high humidity typical of this season can intensify the feeling of heat. Nights also remain very warm, with minimum temperatures in the range of 23.2°C (May) to 25.7°C (August). The difference between day and night temperatures in summer is relatively small, usually amounting to between 5.3°C (in October) and 6.4°C (in May).

Winter in Fort Lauderdale, spanning the period from November to April, offers very mild and pleasant weather. Average temperatures during these months vary from 20.4°C (January) to 24.9°C (April). Daytime highs are usually in the range of 24.1°C (in January) – 28.4°C (in April), making this time ideal for walks and active outdoor recreation. Nights remain cool but not cold: minimum temperatures range from 16.8°C (in January) to 21.3°C (in April). Temperature fluctuations between day and night in winter are slightly more noticeable than in summer, ranging from 5.8°C (in November) to 7.4°C (in March), but overall the climate remains very comfortable.

Precipitation

In Fort Lauderdale, there is a fairly clear division of the year into wet and dry seasons, which is typical for a tropical climate. Precipitation here falls exclusively in the form of rain, as temperatures remain high all year round.

The rainy season in Fort Lauderdale usually lasts from May to October, reaching its peak in the summer months. The highest amount of rainfall occurs in June (on average 9 mm), as well as in September (8 mm) and August (7 mm). It is in these months that rains occur most frequently: for example, in August there are up to 28 rainy days, in July27 days, and in June26 days. Rains during this period are often intense but can be short-lived, typical of tropical downpours, after which the sun comes out again.

A drier period falls on the months from November to April. At this time, the amount of precipitation and rainy days decreases noticeably. The driest months are January and March, when only 1 mm of precipitation falls. In March, the lowest number of rainy days is also observed – only about 7. In the remaining months of this period (February, April, November, December), the amount of precipitation ranges from 2 to 3 mm, and the number of days with precipitation ranges from 8 to 12. Rains in the dry season are generally less heavy and occur less frequently.

What to Pack

When planning a trip to Fort Lauderdale, remember that the city welcomes guests with warmth all year round. The basis of your wardrobe should consist of light and breathable items: cotton t-shirts, shorts, sundresses, and, of course, swimwear to enjoy the famous beaches. Do not forget about reliable sun protection – sunscreen with high SPF, a wide-brimmed hat or cap, as well as sunglasses will become your faithful companions. Comfortable footwear, such as sandals or light sneakers, will ensure comfort during walks around the city and promenades.

Considering the seasonal weather features in Fort Lauderdale, it is worth making some adjustments to your suitcase. From May to October, and especially intensely from June to September, the rainy season lasts, characterized by frequent, although often short-lived, precipitation. During this period, a light raincoat or a compact umbrella, as well as clothes made of quick-drying fabrics, will come in handy. In the cooler months, from November to April, when evenings can be fresher (especially from December to March, with minimum temperatures around 17-19°C), a light sweater, cardigan, or windbreaker will be useful. The principle of layering in clothing will help you feel comfortable both outdoors and in air-conditioned rooms, which may seem cool after the heat outside.
