Station History
The history of rail service in Newport News is rooted in the golden age of the Chesapeake and Ohio (C&O) railway, which turned the city into a significant coal port on the East Coast. For many years, passengers were served by the old station on Warwick Boulevard.
The newest chapter of history began in 2024 with the opening of the Newport News Transportation Center. Moving the station to Bland Boulevard became part of a large-scale project to modernise the region's transport infrastructure. The new multimodal hub is designed to improve connectivity between Amtrak trains, intercity and city buses, as well as provide more convenient access to the airport.
