Most airline tickets are exchangeable with an additional fee at any time before the flight departure.

Information about exchangeability is often indicated in the ticket itinerary receipt. 

A ticket that states that exchange is not available, cannot be reissued for another flight, or have its time or date of flight changed. 

For a ticket with the line «Exchange for a fee», it is permitted to change the date or time of departure with payment of an airline penalty and a service fee.

— What makes up the cost of a ticket exchange?

The cost of an exchange consists of the airline penalty, the difference between the old and new fare, as well as Kupibilet's service fee for the ticket exchange procedure for each ticket separately.

• The airline penalty for exchange is specified in your ticket's fare rules and depends on the airline. For each individual ticket, the penalty is usually fixed, does not depend on the desired departure date, and, as a rule, does not increase closer to the ticket's departure date. After the flight departs (in case of no-show), exchange is usually no longer possible.

  On average, the penalty for exchanging an economy class ticket with Russian airlines is about 3,000 ₽. Below we have listed the penalties of popular air carriers to help you get an idea.

• Payment of the difference between the old and new fare will not be required if there are seats available on the desired flight at the same fare as your original ticket. If only more expensive tickets are available, the difference will be included in the exchange cost.

  If a lower fare is available on the new flight, the difference cannot be refunded or taken into account when calculating the exchange cost. Exchange to a lower fare is prohibited. 

• Kupibilet's service fee for the exchange procedure is fixed and amounts to 1,700 ₽ per ticket. Or 2,500 ₽ if the purchase was made from a third-party service, for example – Yandex.Travel, Aviasales, and others.

Calculation of the minimum exchange cost with airlines using examples of popular economy class fares for domestic flights within the Russian Federation

The minimum calculation includes only the airline penalty and Kupibilet fees. In addition to these, an exchange may require payment of the difference between the old and new fare, which depends on the availability of seats on your desired flight.

Aeroflot

For tickets in fare groups «Promo-Light», «Promo», «Light», «Budget», and «Optimum», the airline penalty for exchange before flight departure is from 3,500 ₽ per exchange operation. Thus, the minimum exchange cost including the service fee is from 5,200 ₽.

For tickets with the «Economy Basic» fare, the airline penalty for exchange before departure is from 4,000 ₽. Including fees, the minimum exchange cost is from 5,700 ₽.

For tickets with the «Economy Standard» fare, the airline penalty for exchange before flight departure is from 2,300 ₽. Including the service fee, the minimum exchange cost is from 4,000 ₽.

Utair

For the «Minimum» fare, the exchange penalty is from 6,000 ₽ per flight in the ticket. The minimum exchange cost including the service fee will be from 7,700 ₽.

For «Optimum» and «Premium» fares, the exchange penalty is from 2,000 ₽ per flight in the ticket. The minimum exchange cost including the service fee will be from 3,700 ₽.

Ural Airlines

All fares are exchangeable for a different date/time of departure without an airline penalty, including a service fee — from 1,700 ₽. Exchange without a fee is possible more than 72 hours in advance.

Pobeda

Exchange for the «Maximum» fare is possible without a penalty. Including the service fee — from 1,700 RUB. For tickets with «Advantageous» and «Basic» fares, the airline penalty for exchange is 5,000 ₽. Including the service fee, the minimum exchange cost is from 6,700 ₽. Exchange is possible more than 48 hours in advance.
