How much can be refunded
If you are returning a ticket that you purchased for travel within the Russian Federation on a Russian train, the following will be refunded to your card:
the cost of the ticket and reserved seat β if you returned the ticket no later than 8 hours before departure;
the cost of the ticket and 50% of the reserved seat cost β if you returned the ticket less than 8 hours, but no later than 2 hours before departure;
only the cost of the ticket, without the reserved seat β if you returned the ticket less than 2 hours before departure.
If you missed your train within 12 hours after departure or due to illness/accident (with supporting documents) within 5 days from the moment of departure β you can only get a refund for the ticket cost, without the reserved seat. In this case, online ticket return is not possible; you need to contact an RZD ticket office.
Funds are credited to the account of the person who paid for the tickets within 7β30 calendar days from the date of refund processing.
Features of return for 'Round-trip' fare
When simultaneously canceling a trip in both directions, the electronic ticket for the 'return' direction is refunded first, then for the 'there' direction.
If you want to return only one ticket, only the 'return' direction can be refunded.
Features of return for different compartment types
Negotiation compartment: return of travel documents issued for travel in a 'negotiation compartment' of the high-speed 'Sapsan' train (service class 1P) is only possible when all 4 seats are returned simultaneously.
Lux: return of electronic tickets issued for 'Lux' carriages with service class '1A', '1M' and 'SV' carriages with service class '1E' is only possible when all 2 seats are returned simultaneously.
SINGLE, COUPEK: return of electronic tickets issued at 'SINGLE' and 'COUPEK' fares is only possible when all purchased seats in the compartment are returned simultaneously.
Features of returning tickets issued at a non-refundable fare
When returning tickets with a non-refundable fare, the cost of travel is not refunded. Only the cost of services (animal transport, extra luggage, insurance, additional meals) and linen can be refunded, with a return fee withheld.
The cost of travel may be refunded 1) in case of cancellation or delay of train departure or failure to provide the passenger with the seat indicated on the ticket, as well as 2) for objective health-related reasons:
sudden illness of the passenger or a family member traveling with them;
death of a family member;
injury to the passenger as a result of an accident.
In such situations, the reason must be confirmed by relevant documents dated to the train's departure. The refund of the travel cost is then made only at the ticket office of the boarding station no later than 5 days after the train's departure.
When contacting the ticket office, you must present:
a printed e-ticket or ticket number;
the original document used to purchase the ticket (passport, birth certificate, etc.);
a document confirming the reason for the return;
a refund application (can be filled out on site).
When refunding the travel cost for a non-refundable fare, a stamp must be placed on the ticket:
In case of train cancellation or delay β at the RZD ticket office;
In case of failure to provide the passenger with the seat indicated on the ticket β with the train conductor.
Features of returning tickets issued at 'Birthday' and 'Birthday. Companion' fares
return of tickets issued at the 'Birthday' fare is only possible after returning tickets at the 'Birthday. Companion' fare, if any
partial return of tickets issued at the 'Birthday. Companion' fare is available in the standard manner
Features of returning tickets issued for special seats for passengers with children
In case of returning tickets for adult passengers seated in special seats for passengers with children, adult tickets are returned first, and then children's tickets.
