Baggage allowance is not the same for all airlines. For example, some airlines' fares allow you to carry 20 kg of luggage, while other airlines may not allow any baggage without an additional fee.

When flying to Europe or within Russia, most airlines allow 1 piece of luggage weighing 20 or 23 kg, and when flying to the USA or Canada – 2 pieces of 20-23 kg each.

Many airlines have discount fares – tickets are cheaper, but you can also take less luggage.

There is no universal baggage allowance. Therefore, it is best to visit the airline's website in the «Baggage» section and check all the necessary and up-to-date information there. Here, we will provide information that may be relevant for most airlines:

Maximum baggage weight on a plane

The maximum weight is limited not only by airline requirements but also by the union of porters working at airports. As a rule, they do not lift suitcases weighing over 32 kg. However, in some places, lower limits are found, but this is rare and occurs in small airports.

What to do if your suitcase exceeds 32 kg?

— transfer some items to another bag. The 32 kg limit applies not to the total baggage but specifically to the weight of one suitcase. For an additional fee, you can take 2 suitcases of 32 kg each. The main thing is that the weight of one piece of luggage does not exceed this limit.

— register your luggage as oversized for an additional fee. Such luggage can only be transported after prior agreement with the carrier. When booking a ticket or a few days before departure, contact the airline and inform them that you plan to transport non-standard luggage.

Oversized baggage has its own limits: as a rule, the maximum permissible weight is 50 kg. If your baggage weighs more, the decision on transportation will depend on whether the airport has special equipment for its loading and unloading.

Baggage weight for a child under 12 years old

For a child under 2 years old who does not occupy a separate seat on the plane, you can carry 1 piece of luggage weighing up to 10 kg, as well as a stroller or car seat.

The baggage allowance for children aged 2 years and older is the same as for adult passengers.

Which airlines do not include baggage in the ticket price?

On flights of budget airlines (low-cost carriers) such as Ryanair, EasyJet, Wizz Air, and others, baggage is not included in the airfare and is paid separately. Only hand luggage can be taken free of charge.

The same rules apply to the Russian airline «Pobeda»: by default, only hand luggage with maximum dimensions 36x30x27 cm is included in the flight cost.

Regular airlines on some routes sell tickets at reduced fares that do not include baggage. Tickets without baggage can be found with European carriers AirBaltic, AirBerlin, Lufthansa, Russian S7, UTair, and many other airlines.

How to find out what baggage allowance is included in the ticket?

Up-to-date information can be found before purchasing a ticket at the «Booking» step.

After purchasing a ticket, the baggage allowance can be seen on the itinerary receipt and in the order details in your Kupibilet Personal Account.
