Accommodation usually eats up almost half of the travel budget. But if you know where to go, these expenses won’t be a burden. In this article, we tell you about countries with cheap accommodation options.

Everyone has their own preferences, we understand that. Some won’t stay where breakfast isn’t served, some need a king-size bed or a central location, while others are fine even in a hut (literally). We can’t please everyone, so we’ve compiled a selection based on the cheapest price per person, so you know what to start with and can gradually plan your trip budget. Let’s go!

Lithuania

Have you been to Vilnius? Travelers love this city because you can fly cheaply to Europe from there. But don’t rush straight to the airport, spend a couple of days in this beautiful city. Especially since an overnight stay won’t hit your wallet hard — a bed in a shared room will cost around €5–7 per night. For simple apartments within 2.5 km of the city center, you’ll be asked from €15–20 per night depending on the season.

Poland

Whichever city you choose — all are good and authentic. There are endless streets to walk, beautiful nature, and even mountains! And accommodation prices are simply ridiculous: a bed in a shared room will cost €3–7 per night. The lower end of the range is common in places like Gdansk, Poznan, and Krakow, while in the capital it’s a bit more expensive. In Warsaw, a cozy shared room in the center can be found for as little as €6 per night, and apartments within 5 km of the center start from €25. By the way, there’s also a women-only hostel here, where a bed costs about €8 per night, though it’s quite far — 8 km from the center. In other cities, prices are similar, but the further from the city into nature, the cheaper houses and apartments are.

Philippines

Many travelers love to spend winters on these islands in the Pacific Ocean. And for good reason: it’s inexpensive, beautiful, and warm here. These arguments are enough to escape the cold winter months. So, in the Philippines, a bed in a shared hostel room will cost from €3 per night. If you’re lucky, for this money you can rent an entire tent on the beach, and even with breakfast!

Apartments and houses can be found around €7 per night. Meanwhile, hostel ratings are impressive, ranging from “Very Good” to “Excellent”. It’s simply a celebration!

Generally, Asian countries are quite conservative in terms of accommodation, unless it’s a popular area with parties and surf clubs. Quiet, peaceful places will always please your wallet with their offers.

India

This country changes your worldview by 360 degrees. But most people go straight to a heavenly place — Goa. In hostels, a stone’s throw from the beach, you’ll find beds in shared rooms starting from €3. One-bedroom apartments near the beach start from €10. If you want luxury with a balcony, it’s from €17 per night. There’s even a double room in a five-star hotel for €24! But there are few such options. Most luxurious hotels offer rooms starting from €70 per night. Want to relax lavishly and privately? Rent a villa, especially since the cost of houses near the beach starts from €28 per night.

Montenegro

A wonderful place for a family vacation, as there are so many beaches and resorts here. The sun is quite gentle, and it’s not as far to fly as to Asia. In the mountains, a family room awaits you for €6. Closer to the sea, in Tivat, it’s more expensive — in winter, apartment prices start from €18 per night, and in summer from €24. In the center of Podgorica, prices for shared rooms are roughly the same, plus or minus €3.

Bosnia and Herzegovina

We’ve written about this country in our blog before. There’s definitely a lot to see there, and it makes for an ideal intermediate stop in Eastern Europe. A couple of nights in Sarajevo won’t hit your wallet hard: prices for beds in shared rooms and apartments start from €8 per person per night. The further from the capital, the cheaper it gets by approximately €2–3. So, in Mostar, it’s quite realistic to rent a bed in a shared room for €5 right in the center, and a double room will cost a minimum of €9 per night.

Bulgaria

The country is known for its health resorts and SPA complexes. In Sofia, Varna, and Burgas, cheap apartments near the metro are offered, starting from €4 per night per person. Beds in hostels are somehow more expensive — from €7. And in winter, prices increase by an average of €4. So, the same apartments near the metro will already be €8–10.

Brazil

An extraordinary country, though distant. Spent almost all your money on the flight? No problem! In Rio de Janeiro, within 3 km of the center, you can count on a bed in a shared room for €8–10. At these prices, almost all of them are without breakfast, but food at nearby cafes won’t cost much either. Apartments can be found for €18 per night, but these will be far from the center — about 10 km. If closer, apartments cheaper than €35 per night are almost impossible to find.

These are just a few examples, but there are many similar countries. It’s great that even in capitals there are budget rooms and apartments! The main thing is to book in advance and with free cancellation, in case a more interesting option comes up later.
