Nordwind Baggage and Hand Luggage Rules

Nordwind will take you to Turkey, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Belarus, and Cuba. There are flights to Gorno-Altaysk, from Anapa to Krasnoyarsk, to Izhevsk and more. All that's left is to pack your belongings carefully so that your suitcase and cabin bag are accepted for carriage. We'll tell you about Nordwind's baggage and hand luggage rules.

Nordwind Hand Luggage Requirements

For your bag to be marked as hand luggage and allowed into the cabin, you need to check the airline's fares. If you have an Economy class 'Light' or 'Optimum' fare, your hand luggage must not exceed 10 kg and dimensions of 40x30x20 cm. 'Premium' passengers in Economy class are luckier. Although the weight for hand luggage remains the same, the dimensions increase slightly – 55x40x20 cm. Similar rules apply to the 'Optimum' Business class fare. For the 'Premium' Business class fare, 2 pieces of 10 kg each are allowed, with the same dimensions of 55x40x20 cm.

If your hand luggage raises doubts, you will be asked to check its dimensions using (you won't believe it) a hand luggage sizer. Exceeding the norm will result in an offer to check the bag/backpack/suitcase as checked baggage with payment according to the fare, or the termination of the air carriage contract. In other words, you simply won't be allowed on the flight.

As always, a whole list of items can be carried free of charge as hand luggage:

• a backpack with dimensions 40x30x20 cm and a maximum weight of 5 kg, a lady's handbag or a briefcase;
• a bouquet of flowers;
• outerwear;
• baby food for the child during the flight;
• a suit in a garment bag;
• a child carrying device (baby bassinet, restraint systems, and other devices) for children under two years old;
• medications, special dietary products for the duration of the flight;
• crutches, canes, rollators, a folding wheelchair with dimensions that allow it to be safely placed on the shelf above the passenger seat or under the seat in front;
• goods purchased in duty-free shops at the airport, packed in a sealed (tamper-proof) plastic bag with dimensions 40x30x20 cm. They must occupy no more than one piece, weigh a maximum of 3 kg, and have dimensions 40x30x20 cm.

Carriage of Liquids in Hand Luggage

Standard restrictions on the carriage of liquids, gels, and aerosols in hand luggage also apply to Nordwind. You can carry creams, gels, water, perfumes, deodorants, toothpaste, and so on, on board, only if their containers are no more than 100 ml, and everything is packed in one transparent, tightly sealable bag with a volume of 1 liter. One such bag is allowed per passenger. So, buy travel bottle sets or travel-sized products in advance to decant shampoos, shower gels, and lotions.

Baggage Allowance on Nordwind Flights

Here, too, you need to consider the class and fare. The dimension limit is no more than 203 cm for the sum of three measurements (length × height × width).

These rules apply to adult passengers, children from 2 to 12 years old, and children under 2 years old if they are provided with a separate seat in the cabin. If such young passengers are flying on their mother's or father's lap, they are allowed one piece weighing no more than 10 kg and zero pieces of hand luggage. The beloved teddy bear will have to fly in the parents' backpack.

Nordwind Excess Baggage Fees

Anything exceeding the dimensions indicated above is considered oversized baggage. An additional fee will be charged for its transportation. You can pay it in advance or at the check-in counter. The first option is, naturally, cheaper.

Fares are updated periodically, so it's best to check them directly on the Nordwind website and double-check shortly before departure.

The cost depends on the tariff zone (CIS, Europe, Africa, etc.) and the payment time – starting from 36 hours before departure and ending with a period of less than 4 hours before departure. For example, an additional baggage piece up to 10 kg and 203 cm on a flight to Kaliningrad will cost from 1,849 ₽ to 3,029 ₽ if your departure is more than 36 hours away. And when only 4 hours remain, the price will increase to 3,530 ₽ (prices are valid as of September 2025).

Carriage of Sports Equipment

Good news: Nordwind loves athletes. How else to explain that their year is divided into ski season and off-season? From November 1 to May 10, Economy class passengers on 'Optimum' and 'Premium' fares, and all Business class passengers, can carry one set of ski equipment weighing up to 20 kg free of charge. Only with the 'Light' fare will this service have to be paid for separately.

Year-round, hockey and fishing equipment, diving, surfing, golf equipment, bicycles, and so on, are included in the free baggage allowance provided by the fare. The exception is poles for athletes. These must be paid for at oversized baggage rates.

For each type of sports equipment, the airline has detailed conditions. The general theme is that the weight should not exceed 20 kg. Except for bicycles – we didn't find such restrictions for them. However, there are other rules. The two-wheeled friend must be packed in a special cardboard box or protective film, pedals detached, and handlebars fixed.

Can Baggage Be Combined on Nordwind Flights?

Yes, you can! If passengers are flying together. These can be family members or simply friends, acquaintances, colleagues traveling together. Here, the airline is interested in whether you are traveling from the same airport to another on the same flight. Baggage can be combined during joint check-in. In this case, the weight of the combined suitcase can reach 30 kg (but no more). To receive this service, you will need to provide documents. For family members, this includes a marriage certificate, birth certificate, or adoption certificate. For friends and colleagues, vouchers, tourist vouchers, a business trip order, or a joint hotel reservation will suffice.
