The climate of Neuquén can be described as arid and temperate, with distinct seasons. The main feature of the local weather is the extremely low amount of precipitation: rain falls here rarely and in insignificant volumes, so you will hardly need an umbrella. Thanks to the dry air, both the summer heat and the winter chill are tolerated quite easily.

Summer (from December to February) is hot and sunny here: daytime temperatures often exceed 30°C, creating ideal conditions for heat lovers. Winter (from June to August), on the contrary, is cool, with average temperatures around 7–9°C and cold nights when the air cools down to 2–4°C. The off-season delights with mild and comfortable weather, making Argentina in this region attractive to visit almost all year round.

The climate in Neuquén is characterized by distinct seasonality with noticeable temperature fluctuations throughout the year. The summer season, which lasts from December to February in this region, is distinguished by high figures: the average temperature in January, the hottest month, is about 25.2°C. During the day, the air often warms up to 30-32°C, creating sweltering conditions, however, thanks to the dry climate, the heat is borne relatively easily.

Winter, falling on June, July, and August, brings significant cooling. The coldest month is usually July with an average temperature of just 7.0°C. During this period, night-time readings drop to 2-4°C, so travellers will need warm clothes for evening walks and early mornings. During the day, the air warms up to 11-12°C, which makes the weather quite comfortable for active recreation, provided there is no strong wind.

A characteristic feature of the local climate is the significant difference between day and night temperatures, especially in the warm season. For example, in January, after a daily maximum of 32°C, the temperature at night can drop to a pleasant 18°C, ensuring coolness for sleep. In the winter months, the amplitude of fluctuations is slightly less, about 9-10 degrees, but the contrast between the cold morning and the milder day is still palpable.

Neuquén is distinguished by an arid climate, so precipitation here is a rather rare and sparse phenomenon. During this period, as well as in the changeable off-season, it is best to use the principle of layering. Take t-shirts, warm sweaters, and a reliable jacket with you to easily take off or put on items depending on the time of day. Considering that it is often windy in Patagonia, a windproof jacket or scarf will become indispensable companions.

Precipitation falls extremely rarely in the city, so heavy raincoats will hardly be needed, however, a light umbrella will not take up much space. Pay special attention to footwear: for long walks around the city and surroundings, comfortable shoes with flat soles or trainers with good cushioning are necessary.
