Bermuda Botanical Gardens

The Bermuda Botanical Gardens is a true emerald oasis, spread across 14 hectares of lush tropical vegetation. History and culture lovers should visit the Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art, located right on the grounds. Its galleries showcase works by masters such as Georgia O’Keeffe and Winslow Homer. Additionally, on certain days (usually Tuesdays and Fridays), free tours are offered, which include a viewing of Camden House — the official residence of the Premier.

For a post-walk break, there is a cozy cafe serving fresh sandwiches and salads. Children will be delighted by the aviary and exploring the winding paths among giant palms that create the atmosphere of a real jungle.

Reaching this natural sanctuary is easy, as it is located in Paget Parish, just about a mile southwest of the city center. If you prefer public transport, take bus routes 1, 2, or 7 — they pass by the memorial hospital, which is located in the immediate vicinity of the garden entrance.

For those traveling by rental vehicle or taxi, it is most convenient to take South Road, Berry Hill Road, or Point Finger Road. Parking is available on-site. You can also walk from the city center, though be aware that the route includes a rather steep climb that requires some physical fitness.

The history of this green expanse began in 1898 when the park was officially opened to the public. In its more than 120-year history, it has transformed from an experimental plot into the most visited national park, carefully preserving the region's unique flora.

A special place on the grounds is occupied by Camden House — a magnificent building dating back to the early 18th century. It serves as a striking example of traditional Bermudian architecture with its characteristic white roofs and shuttered windows. In the past, it housed an arrowroot factory, but today the house is the official residence of the Premier and a venue for hosting high-ranking guests.

In recent decades, the garden has continued to evolve: an art museum opened here in 2008, and landscape designers have worked on creating themed zones, including a Japanese Zen garden and an English Tudor-style maze. The park is managed with the support of the Bermuda Botanical Society, ensuring its scientific and aesthetic value is maintained.

For a leisurely stroll along the main paths and to enjoy the floral scents, it usually takes about 2–3 hours. This is enough time to see the primary collections and take beautiful photos against the backdrop of exotic plants.
