This natural site is an important part of the ecological station on the famous "Waterfall Trail," which runs along the crystal-clear Voadeira stream. Brazil is famous for its biomes, and here you can see the unique flora and fauna of the Cerrado region firsthand. The waterfall is famous for its transparent natural pools, which are so pleasant to swim in under the hot sun of Mato Grosso state.

Due to its developed infrastructure and proximity to the city limits, Usina Waterfall is often called the "urban waterfall." All the conditions for a comfortable holiday have been created here: from convenient trails to equipped rest areas, making it an ideal point for family leisure and a first acquaintance with the natural riches of Serra Azul Park.

What to Do

The main magnet for visitors here is the crystal-clear natural pools. After a short and pleasant walk through the forest, there is nothing better than diving into the cool waters to the steady sound of falling water. This is an ideal place for relaxation and meditation in the heart of nature, where you can forget the bustle of the city.

For outdoor enthusiasts, Cachoeira da Usina serves as a starting point for more serious adventures. You can go hiking on the Waterfall Trail, the total length of which is about 9 kilometers. On this route, 13 different waterfalls and rapids await you, as well as a unique opportunity to observe the local fauna—for example, the rare fish Astyanax xavante, which is found in these streams.

Photographers and aerial photography enthusiasts will find stunning angles here: the contrast of the emerald green Cerrado and the white jets of water looks magnificent in pictures. The territory also provides infrastructure for a comfortable stay: there is a campsite for those who want to spend the night under the starry sky, toilets, and a small snack bar where you can have a bite to eat and buy refreshing drinks.

Getting There

Reaching this natural treasure is quite easy, as the entrance to Serra Azul State Park is located just 3 kilometers from the city center. The main route passes through the Vila Serrinha district. Visitors can choose to drive up the road or challenge themselves by climbing the famous 1,200-step staircase leading to the Christ monument, which offers breathtaking panoramic views.

Usina Waterfall itself is within walking distance of the parking area. The path to it is a very easy walk that takes about 35 minutes (approximately 2 km). Thanks to its proximity to the city limits, the park entrance can be easily reached by taxi or rented transport, and for those who enjoy long walks, a pedestrian route directly from the city center is also an option.

If you are planning a visit, the best time to go is during the dry season from June to September. During this period, the roads are most accessible, and the weather is perfect for long walks and swimming in the refreshing waterfall waters.

History & Facts

The history of this place is inextricably linked to the creation of Serra Azul State Park, which was officially founded on May 31, 1994. The main goal of its establishment was to protect the unique ecosystem of the Brazilian Cerrado, preserve the headwaters of the Araguaia and Garças rivers, and protect the region's valuable archaeological and geological sites.

One of the most unusual facts in the park's history is the official recognition in 1995 of a site called Discoporto. This is the first place in Brazil specifically designated by law for a potential UFO landing. It is a perfectly circular clearing 45 meters in diameter on top of the mountain range, giving the park a touch of mysticism and attracting mystery lovers from all over the world.

In terms of ancient history, the area around the waterfalls holds traces of human presence dating back thousands of years. In the Gruta dos Pezinhos cave, rock paintings were discovered that testify to the rich cultural heritage of the ancient inhabitants of these lands. Usina Waterfall itself, according to one version, was named after an old hydroelectric plant or a historical estate that was located nearby in the past.

Today, the park is managed by the Mato Grosso Secretariat for the Environment (SEMA-MT). Specialists have turned the "Waterfall Trail," of which Usina Waterfall is a part, into an educational route where each station tells the story of the region's unique flora and fauna, maintaining a fragile balance between tourism and nature.

Time Needed

For those who just want to freshen up in the cool streams of Cachoeira da Usina and take a few beautiful photos, 1–2 hours will be quite enough. Easy access to the waterfall allows you to include it in even the busiest travel schedule.

However, if you decide not to limit yourself to one site and want to walk the famous 9 km Waterfall Trail or climb to the statue of Christ, you should set aside half a day (from 3 to 5 hours) for the walk. This will allow you to enjoy all thirteen waterfalls and natural pools hidden within the park without rushing.

Working Hours

The waterfall is accessible for visiting as part of the general operating hours of Serra Azul Park. The park is open to guests daily, but the opening times vary slightly: from Monday to Saturday you can enter the territory from 07:00 to 18:00, and on Sunday from 08:59 to 18:00.

Please note that access conditions and opening hours may change depending on the season or weather conditions. Before your trip, it is recommended to check the official website of the state environmental agency or clarify the information at the checkpoint at the entrance.
