How to Get There

Getting to Aarhus H Station is very simple, as it is essentially the geographic centre of the city. If you are in the area of the pedestrian street Strøget or near the City Hall, the walk will take just 5–10 minutes. The station building is clearly visible from afar and serves as an excellent landmark.

For those travelling from distant districts, public transport is the best choice. Numerous city bus routes (stop Banegårdspladsen) and the light rail line (Letbanen) serve the station. A taxi stand is located right at the main entrance; a trip from the port or outskirts will take about 15–20 minutes depending on traffic.

Services and Amenities

A full range of services for a comfortable journey is provided within the Aarhus H Station premises. In the central hall, you will find ticket machines and DSB counters where you can purchase travel documents and make inquiries. Benches are provided in the main hall for waiting, as well as a paid lounge with enhanced comfort for first-class passengers.

Among other amenities, it is worth noting the availability of free Wi-Fi and charging points for gadgets. Automatic luggage lockers are available for storing belongings (card payment). The station has paid restrooms, baby care rooms, and specially equipped zones for passengers with disabilities, including elevators for platform access.

Where to Eat

You certainly won't go hungry at the station. Right inside the Aarhus H Station building, there are popular 7-Eleven convenience stores where you can buy fresh coffee, Danish pastries, sandwiches, and salads—an excellent option for a quick snack on the road. The average bill here is quite reasonable by Danish standards.

If you have 30–40 minutes to spare, we recommend visiting the adjoining Bruuns Galleri shopping centre. It houses a large food court with a diverse selection: from burgers and pizza to Asian cuisine and healthy food options. It is the ideal place to have a proper lunch before a long trip.

Station History

The history of railway connections in Aarhus began back in 1862, but the current Aarhus H Station building is the third one on this site. It was built in 1927 based on the design of architect K.T. Seest in a neoclassical style and has been considered an architectural monument since then.

Over the decades, the station has been modernized repeatedly to meet the growing passenger flow. One of the most important milestones was the integration with the shopping centre in the 2000s and the recent adaptation of tracks for the Letbanen light rail system. Today, the station retains its historical appearance while remaining a crucial link in the transport system of all Denmark.

Passenger Tips

When planning a trip via Aarhus H Station, try to arrive 15–20 minutes before the train departs. This will give you time to calmly find the right platform and buy a snack. It is most convenient to buy tickets in advance via the DSB app or at machines (which accept cards) to avoid queues at the counters.

Pay attention when transferring: platform numbers are displayed on electronic boards in the main hall. The station is considered a safe place, however, as in any major transport hub, do not leave your luggage unattended. If you have a night wait ahead, keep in mind that the building closes for a few hours late at night, so check the waiting area schedule in advance.
