Temppeliaukio Church (Temppeliaukion kirkko), also known as the "Church in the Rock", is one of the most unusual and visited attractions in Helsinki. Located in the heart of the Finnish capital, this active Lutheran church is a unique architectural structure entirely carved into the granite rock. The project was designed by brothers Timo and Tuomo Suomalainen and opened to parishioners in 1969.
The church's main feature is its hall, surrounded by raw rock walls. It is crowned with an impressive copper and glass dome, through which natural daylight filters inside, creating a special, serene atmosphere. Due to this design, the building is almost invisible from the outside, resembling a futuristic object like a landed flying saucer.
