Current Weather
Overview
The climate in Gokarna, India, is classified as a tropical monsoon climate. This means it's warm year-round, but with a clear distinction between the dry and wet seasons. Temperatures stay relatively stable throughout the year, with averages ranging from 25°C to 29°C, making Gokarna an attractive destination for sun-seekers.
Two main seasons are clearly defined. The dry season lasts roughly from November to April. During this time, rainfall is minimal, particularly from January to March when there is almost none and rainy days are very few. The weather is sunny and hot, with maximum temperatures reaching 30-32°C. This is the most popular time to visit.
The wet season, or monsoon, arrives in May and peaks in June and July, lasting through September or October. These months see a significant increase in rainfall, especially in July (31 mm), along with a high number of rainy days. While temperatures remain high, the increased humidity and frequent rain can make this period less comfortable for some activities. However, this is when nature truly comes alive, becoming incredibly lush and green.
Temperature
Warm weather typical of a tropical climate reigns in Gokarna year-round. The average annual temperature fluctuates only slightly; however, the hottest month is usually April, when the average temperature reaches 29.0°C and daily highs can rise to 32.5°C. The relatively "cool" period, if you can call it that, is the monsoon season—particularly July, with an average temperature of 25.1°C, though even then minimum temperatures rarely drop below 23.9°C. January also stands out for having the lowest nighttime temperatures, around 21.0°C, providing a pleasant freshness.
The summer months preceding the monsoons (March–May) are characterized by building heat. In April and May, the daytime heat combines with high humidity, especially before the rains begin. Average maximum temperatures during this period consistently stay above 31°C. With the arrival of the monsoon in June and its peak in July and August, temperatures drop slightly, especially the daytime highs, which fall to 26–28°C. However, high humidity and frequent rainfall create the muggy feel typical of this season.
The period from October to February is often considered the most comfortable for visiting Gokarna. After the monsoons end, clear, sunny weather sets in. Temperatures become very pleasant: during the day, the air warms up to 29–32°C, while nights bring refreshing coolness, especially in December and January, when minimum temperatures can drop to 21–22.5°C. These months also see the greatest difference between day and night temperatures, reaching 9–10°C, which is particularly noticeable in January and February. This allows you to enjoy warm days and comfortable evenings.

Precipitation
Gokarna experiences a pronounced change in rainfall seasons throughout the year. The dry season is quite long, spanning from November to April. The months from January to March are particularly dry, with rainfall levels approaching zero and only 1 to 3 rainy days. December and April also see minimal precipitation, no more than 1 mm.
The rainy season, or monsoon, in Gokarna usually begins in May, when the number of rainy days jumps to 15 and rainfall volume reaches 4 mm. The season peaks in June, July, and August. July is the wettest month: it rains almost every day (31 rainy days), bringing an average of 31 mm of precipitation. June and August also see very high rain frequency—29 and 30 rainy days respectively—with total rainfall of 22 mm and 18 mm.
September and October are also part of the rainy period, although the intensity of precipitation gradually decreases. In September, you can expect about 12 mm of rain and 27 rainy days, while October sees 8 mm and 24 rainy days. By November, rainfall drops sharply to 2 mm, and the number of rainy days decreases to 6, signaling the return of the dry season. Snow is not typical for Gokarna due to its warm climate.

Packing Tips
When planning a trip to Gokarna, it's important to consider its warm tropical climate. Warm weather prevails year-round, with average temperatures between 25°C and 29°C. Therefore, your wardrobe should consist primarily of light, breathable clothing made from natural fabrics like cotton or linen. Don't forget your swimwear, high-SPF sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses—they'll be useful in any season. For walking around town and the beach, comfortable sandals or flip-flops are ideal.
Special attention should be paid to the monsoon period, which typically lasts from June to September and also affects May and October when rainfall increases noticeably. During these months, you'll need a waterproof jacket or raincoat, as well as an umbrella. Clothing made of quick-drying materials will come in very handy. Also, consider waterproof footwear or shoes that aren't ruined by moisture and dry quickly. Humidity can lead to more mosquitoes, so insect repellent is a good idea.
Regardless of the season, comfortable walking shoes will be your faithful companion for exploring the surroundings. While evenings are usually warm, a light sweater or shawl might be useful, especially between November and February when night temperatures drop slightly. Layering isn't critical here due to the consistently warm weather, but having a light wrap will keep you comfortable during occasional slight temperature drops or when visiting air-conditioned spaces.
