Despite its relatively small size, Tuticorin Airport plays a vital role in regional connectivity, linking southern Tamil Nadu with major cities such as Chennai and Bangalore. In 2020, night landing systems were installed, significantly expanding its operational capabilities. Large-scale expansion projects, completed by the end of 2024, highlight its growing importance. These included extending the runway to 3,115 metres and constructing a new terminal capable of handling up to 1,440 passengers per hour. Thanks to these improvements, the airport offers passengers more comfortable conditions and increased service efficiency.
