General Weather Overview

The climate of Guadalajara is distinguished by pleasant warmth year-round, often characterized as the "climate of eternal spring." Average annual temperatures are comfortable, without sharp extremes, making Guadalajara an attractive destination at any time. There are two distinct seasons here: dry and rainy, each with its own features.

The dry season in Guadalajara lasts approximately from November to May. During these months, sunny weather prevails, and precipitation is extremely rare or non-existent. The warmest days, with maximum temperatures sometimes exceeding 30°C, fall in the spring months — from March to May. From June to October, the rainy season sets in. During this period, precipitation becomes a frequent occurrence, especially in July and August, when it can rain almost daily. However, judging by the total amount of falling moisture, these are generally not heavy or are short-lived rains. Temperatures in the rainy season remain warm but feel slightly milder thanks to the precipitation.

Thus, the weather in Guadalajara offers diverse conditions depending on the time of your trip. If you prefer cloudless skies and maximum sunlight, plan your visit for the dry season. If you are not bothered by frequent but usually light rains, which bring pleasant freshness and enliven the surrounding nature, then the summer and early autumn months can also be an excellent time to get to know this colorful city in Mexico.

Temperature

The temperature patterns in Guadalajara are characterized by pleasant warmth throughout the year, although there are noticeable seasonal fluctuations. The hottest month is usually May, when the average temperature is 25.0°C, and maximum values can rise to 33.1°C. April is also very warm, with an average temperature of 23.5°C and highs up to 32.0°C. The coolest months are considered December and January, with average temperatures around 17.7-17.8°C. Nighttime temperatures in these months can drop to 10.4-10.9°C, while daytime highs remain comfortable, reaching 24.5-25.1°C.

The summer months in Guadalajara, from June to August, bring warmth, but the peak heat characteristic of May has already passed. Average temperatures during this period range from 22.3°C (August) to 24.7°C (June). Daytime highs in June can reach 31.1°C, but in July and August they are somewhat lower, around 27.0-27.4°C, which is partly due to the onset of the rainy season bringing periodic freshness. Winter, from December to February, is very mild in Guadalajara. Average temperatures vary from 17.7°C in December to 19.4°C in February. Nights can be cool, with minimum temperatures from 10.4°C (January) to 11.8°C (February), but days are usually sunny and warm, with maximum temperatures reaching 24.5-27.0°C.

One of the characteristic features of Guadalajara's climate is noticeable diurnal temperature fluctuations, especially pronounced in the dry season (approximately from November to May). The difference between daytime highs and nighttime lows during these months can be 14-17°C. For example, in March, when the average maximum temperature reaches 30.6°C, the average minimum drops to 13.7°C. In the rainy season (from June to October), these fluctuations smooth out somewhat due to greater cloud cover and humidity, but still remain perceptible, amounting to about 10°C. This means that even after a hot day, the evening and night can bring pleasant coolness, making the stay in the city more comfortable.

Precipitation

In Guadalajara, two precipitation seasons are clearly traced: a distinct rainy season and a prolonged dry period. The rainy season usually falls on the summer and early autumn months, while from late autumn to mid-spring, precipitation is practically absent. Snowfalls are uncharacteristic for Guadalajara, and all precipitation falls in the form of rain.

The greatest amount of precipitation in Guadalajara falls from June to October, forming a distinct rainy season. July stands out as the wettest month: with an average rainfall of 8 mm, it rains here almost every day, counting up to 29 rainy days. August (7 mm of precipitation, 28 rainy days) and September (6 mm of precipitation, 22 rainy days) are slightly behind. Characteristically, with such high frequency, the total amount of falling moisture is small, which indicates predominantly light or moderate, possibly short-lived, rains that bring freshness rather than prolonged downpours.

The dry season in Guadalajara lasts approximately from November to May. During this period, rain is a great rarity. Absolutely dry months, when not a drop of rain falls and not a single rainy day is recorded, are March and April. From November to February, as well as in May, the amount of precipitation also tends toward zero (0 mm), although one to three days with insignificant precipitation may be observed, which almost do not affect the general picture of aridity. Thus, if you are planning a trip and want to avoid rains, these months will be the most suitable.

What to Pack

When packing your suitcase for a trip to Guadalajara, it is worth considering its pleasant but changeable climate. Year-round, you will need comfortable shoes for walking around the city, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat for protection from the sun, especially during the dry and hot period from March to May. Since daytime and nighttime temperatures can differ noticeably, especially from November to May when the difference reaches 14-17°C, the principle of layering in clothing will be your best friend. Light sweaters, cardigans, or jackets will come in handy on cool evenings and early mornings.

In the dry season, which lasts approximately from November to May, place the main emphasis on light, breathable clothing made from natural fabrics – cotton or linen. Days are usually very warm and sunny, with temperatures reaching 25-33°C in the hottest months (March-May). In the evening and at night, the temperature drops to 10-17°C, so a light jacket or sweater will be very appropriate. From June to October, the rainy season arrives in Guadalajara. Although it rains often (especially in July and August, when there are up to 28-29 rainy days), it is usually not very heavy and short-lived. During this period, it is worth taking a light waterproof raincoat or a compact umbrella. Clothing made from quick-drying materials will also be useful. The air temperature remains comfortable, averaging 22-25°C, but due to humidity, it may feel different.
