What to Do

The main reason to visit Brouwcafé Frontaal is, of course, the tasting. From 31 taps flow both classic styles and exclusive new releases like the famous Rhodesian. You can order a tasting flight to compare different styles and pair them with local borrel snacks (traditional Dutch appetizers served with beer).

The venue's atmosphere allows you not only to enjoy a drink but also to observe the life of a modern brewery. The old factory's industrial interior provides a fantastic backdrop for photos, while the cozy terrace is a great place to spend time with a cup of coffee or a glass of wine. You'll often find a mix of dedicated beer enthusiasts and locals unwinding after work here.

For those who want to take a piece of Frontaal home, there are filling stations for growlers and crowlers. This allows you to enjoy the freshest beer even at home. The brewery also features a shop where you can purchase bottles and cans with unique label designs that make for excellent souvenirs.

Getting There

Brouwcafé Frontaal is located at Liniestraat 31, in the lively De Faam district. If you are staying in the city center, a pleasant walk or bike ride will take you about 20–30 minutes. Cycling is perhaps the most authentic way to get around here, given the extensive network of bike paths.

For those who prefer public transport, the most convenient way is to travel from Breda Centraal station. From there, you can take bus No. 2 or No. 4 to the stops nearest the brewery. A taxi from the city center will get you to the door in 5–10 minutes.

If you are traveling by car, follow the A16 or A27 motorways leading toward the city. The drive from Amsterdam or Rotterdam takes about an hour. Parking can be found around Liniestraat, though it is recommended to check for available spots in advance.

History & Facts

The story of Frontaal Brewing Company is an inspiring example of turning a small hobby into a large-scale project. It all began in 2013 when founder Roel Buckens established a microbrewery. The first batches were brewed in a simple shipping container at the STEK creative cluster, with a production capacity of just a few hectoliters per month.

The turning point came in 2015 following a successful crowdfunding campaign. Thanks to the support of beer lovers, the project grew, and in 2016, it moved into the former De Faam candy factory. This historic industrial building gave the brand its unique identity: a blend of old brickwork and state-of-the-art brewing equipment.

In April 2019, the Brouwcafé officially opened here, becoming a hub for locals and tourists alike. Today, the company continues to expand: in 2023, production moved to a new building called The Bay, while maintaining its status as one of the country's leading independent breweries with thousands of private investors.

Time Needed

To fully soak in the atmosphere and appreciate the variety of flavors, a typical visitor will need 1.5 to 3 hours. This is enough time to sample several varieties from the extensive menu and enjoy some traditional snacks.

If you are planning a visit with a large group, want to explore the industrial interior of the factory in detail, or wish to relax on the terrace on a sunny day, your stay could easily extend to 4 hours. This place invites leisurely conversation and immersion into craft beer culture.
