How to Get to the Airport

Getting to Igrim Airport, which serves the settlement of the same name in Russia, is quite simple due to its close proximity to residential areas. The choice of transport depends on your preferences regarding comfort, budget, and time. In general, the journey will not take long, as the settlement is small.

Public Transport. The most economical way to get to the airport is to use the local bus. Typically, there are routes circulating through the settlement that stop at the airport. It is important to remember that their schedule may not be very frequent and is often tied to flight departure and arrival times. It is recommended to check the current timetable in advance with the local transport enterprise or local residents.

Taxi and Transfer. A more comfortable and faster option is to order a taxi. Local taxi services operate in Igrim and can take you to the airport at any time. The journey from the central part of the settlement to the terminal will take no more than 10–15 minutes. The cost of the trip will be higher than the bus, but it ensures convenience, especially if you are travelling with luggage. For greater peace of mind, you can book a transfer in advance.

Car Rental and Parking. If you plan to move around the area actively, you might consider renting a car. In this case, you can get to the airport on your own at a time convenient for you. Igrim Airport has a parking area where you can leave your car for both short and long periods. Given the small size of the airport, finding a free space is usually not difficult.

Terminals and Map

Igrim Airport (IRM) is a small regional air station with a structure that is maximally simple and understandable for passengers. There is no complex system of terminals here, which significantly facilitates navigation and saves time before departure.

The airport operates one passenger terminal, which serves both departing and arriving passengers. It is a compact building where all key zones are within walking distance of each other. Thanks to the small size and logical layout, it is practically impossible to get lost here. All navigation is intuitive, and signs help you orient yourself quickly.

Departure and arrival zones are located in one common hall or adjacent rooms. Immediately after entering the terminal building, you will see the check-in counters. After receiving a boarding pass and checking in luggage, passengers proceed to a small waiting hall where the boarding gate is located. Since there is only one terminal, there is no need for transfers or shuttles — everything is under one roof.

Registration and security procedures at Igrim Airport are very fast due to the low passenger flow. Typically, this takes no more than 20-30 minutes. Nevertheless, it is recommended to arrive at the airport approximately 1-1.5 hours before departure to complete all formalities without rushing. The main advice for navigation is simple: follow the signs and remember that everything you need is within one small building.

Airport History

The history of Igrim Airport (IRM) is inextricably linked with the development of the gas riches of Western Siberia. The air harbour was founded in 1964 to meet the needs of geologists and gas industry workers who laboured at the Berezovsky gas condensate field — the first in this region of Russia. Initially, it was an airfield with a dirt runway, accepting light An-2 and Il-14 aircraft and helicopters, which became the main transport for the developing region.

A key stage in the airport's development was a large-scale reconstruction completed in the early 2000s. In 2003, a new runway with an artificial surface over 2,000 metres long was put into operation. This allowed for the reception of more modern and larger aircraft, such as the Yak-40, An-24, and An-74, year-round and in any weather. In 2005, a new terminal complex with a capacity of 50 passengers per hour was opened, which significantly increased the level of comfort and safety.

Throughout its history, Igrim Airport has played a strategic role, serving as a true "road of life" for the remote settlement. It ensures stable air communication with regional centres, the delivery of cargo and mail, and the execution of emergency medical flights. The history of the airport is a vivid example of how the industrial development of the North stimulated the creation and modernisation of vital transport infrastructure.

Services and Amenities

Igrim Airport is a small regional aviation hub, so the range of services here corresponds to its size and passenger flow. For the convenience of travellers, the terminal is equipped with a general waiting hall where you can comfortably wait for your flight.

You can have a snack before departure at the buffet, which offers drinks, pastries, and light snacks. There is also a small kiosk in the terminal building where you can purchase necessities and newspapers. Passengers have access to free Wi-Fi, and there are power outlets in the waiting hall for charging electronic devices, although their number may be limited.

For travellers with small children, a mother and child room is available. In case of necessity, passengers can visit the medical point operating within the airport territory. Passengers with reduced mobility are provided with all necessary assistance, provided the airline is notified in advance of the need for accompaniment.

There are no bank branches or currency exchange points on the airport territory, although an ATM may be available. There are no hotels directly in the terminal building, but you can stay overnight in hotels located in the settlement of Igrim itself, which can be reached in a few minutes. Specialised VIP lounges, conference halls, or business centres are absent at the airport.

Where to Eat

Igrim Airport (IRM) is a compact regional hub, so dining options here are basic but quite sufficient to comfortably wait for your flight. One should not expect the variety found in large international hubs, but it is possible to refresh yourself before a flight. The main options are concentrated in the airport's single terminal.

Typically, there is one café or buffet operating in the terminal building. It is located in the public area (landside), before pre-flight security screening, which is convenient for both passengers and those seeing them off. Here you can find a standard assortment of dishes familiar to such establishments in Russia: hot soups, main courses like meat patties with a side dish, simple salads, sandwiches, and fresh pastries. For a quick snack, pies or buns with tea are perfect, and for a more substantial meal, you can order a set lunch.

Sometimes the menu may feature dishes with elements of local northern cuisine — for example, something made from venison, river fish, or pastries with taiga berries such as lingonberry or cranberry. However, this is more of a stroke of luck than a rule. Prices at the airport are traditionally somewhat higher than in the settlement itself but remain at an acceptable level for an aviation hub.

Passengers with specific dietary needs (vegetarian, gluten-free diet) should note that finding specialised dishes will be extremely difficult. The choice may be limited to simple side dishes or salads. In such cases, it is most reliable to bring a snack with you. The café's operating hours depend directly on the flight schedule: it opens a few hours before the first flight and closes after the departure of the last one.

Travel Tips

To ensure your journey through the airport of Igrim goes as smoothly and comfortably as possible, we have prepared a few useful tips. This small regional airport has its own specific features; knowing them will help you save time and peace of mind.

Arrival Time at the Airport. For domestic flights, which are the main ones for Igrim Airport, it is recommended to arrive 1.5–2 hours before departure. This time is usually sufficient to check in, drop off luggage, and pass pre-flight security without rushing.

Check-in and Security. If possible, check in for your flight online — this will save you time at the airport. Keep your passport and boarding pass ready. During security screening, be prepared to remove all electronic devices and containers with liquids from your hand luggage.

Seat Selection on the Plane. If the airline allows you to choose a seat, consider your preferences. Window seats will offer beautiful views during take-off and landing, while aisle seats allow you to stand up freely without disturbing neighbours.

Hand Luggage Rules. Standard restrictions apply here as well: liquids in containers no larger than 100 ml (total volume up to 1 litre), packed in a transparent bag. It is forbidden to carry sharp objects, weapons, and explosive substances. Please verify the exact weight and dimension limits for hand luggage on your airline's website.

Passengers with Transfers. If you have a connecting flight, be sure to clarify at luggage check-in whether you will need to collect it at the intermediate airport. Plan your route so that there is sufficient time between flights, especially if the connection is operated by a different airline.

Customs Control. Igrim Airport primarily serves domestic flights within Russia, so there is no customs control for such flights. All passengers undergo only the mandatory pre-flight security screening.

Saving Time and Money. Check in online, travel light to avoid paying for excess baggage, and bring an empty water bottle that can be filled in the secure zone after screening. Prices for food and drinks at airports are traditionally higher.

Flight Delays. In the event of a flight delay, remain calm. First, contact your airline representative for information on the flight status and your rights. Depending on the duration of the delay, you may be provided with drinks, hot meals, or hotel accommodation.
