How to get to the airport

Getting to Remezov Airport from Tobolsk is straightforward — travellers have several convenient options differing in cost and comfort level. Additionally, you can plan a route to the ancient capital of Siberia through other, larger airports in the region.

Public transport is the most economical way to get from the city to the airport. A special bus route No. 101 connects the centre of Tobolsk with the air harbour. The bus departs from the "Abramovsky" market and passes through the city bus station. The journey takes approximately 40–50 minutes, making it an excellent choice for those travelling light and without haste.

For greater speed and comfort, it is worth choosing a taxi or booking a transfer in advance. The trip from the city centre will take on average 20–30 minutes and will be especially convenient if you have a lot of luggage. If you want maximum freedom of movement, consider car rental. This will allow you to not only reach the airport comfortably but also explore the surroundings of Tobolsk. Parking is available at Remezov Airport, where you can leave your car for any duration.

Many travellers arrive in Tobolsk via larger transport hubs. The main alternative is the international airport Roshchino (TJM) in Tyumen, located approximately 200 km away. From there, comfortable intercity buses and high-speed trains run regularly to Tobolsk. The ground part of the journey will take about 3-4 hours. More distant airports, for example, in Khanty-Mansiysk, may also be convenient for constructing complex routes across this unique region of Russia.

Thus, when planning your trip, you can choose the most suitable option: a direct flight to Remezov for quick access to the city or arrival in Tyumen, which often offers more flight options and allows you to combine visiting two significant Siberian cities in one trip.

Terminals and Map

Remezov Airport (RMZ) is a modern and compact aviation hub distinguished by a structure that is well-thought-out and convenient for passengers. The airport operates one passenger terminal, which services all flights — both departures and arrivals. Thanks to this, you will not have to worry about transferring between different buildings or complex navigation.

The terminal layout is intuitive. The building is designed so that the flows of departing and arriving passengers are separated for maximum convenience. The Departure Zone is located in one part of the terminal, and the Arrival Zone is in the other. Immediately after entering the building, you find yourself in the general hall, where check-in counters and flight information are located. Navigation is facilitated by clear signs in Russian and English, so getting lost here is practically impossible.

Pre-flight procedures are organised sequentially. After checking in for the flight, passengers proceed to the security screening area, and then to the sterile boarding waiting area. Boarding gates, small cafes, and shops are located here. The Arrival Zone includes the baggage claim hall and the exit to the general terminal area, where you can meet arrivals or use taxi services.

Due to the small size of the airport and the efficient organisation of operations, the time required to complete all formalities here is minimal. Check-in and pre-flight screening usually take no more than 30-40 minutes. Nevertheless, it is recommended to arrive at the airport as standard — 1.5–2 hours before departure, to check in luggage and go through all procedures without haste.

The main recommendation for navigation is simply to follow the signs. The compactness of the terminal is its key advantage: all necessary zones — from check-in counters to boarding gates — are within walking distance of each other. This makes staying at Remezov Airport comfortable and predictable even for those here for the first time.

Airport History

Remezov Airport (RMZ) in Tobolsk is one of the youngest and most modern airports in Russia, with a history unique to recent times. Its construction began from scratch in 2019 and became a vital project for both industry and tourism development in the region. The air harbour was built in record time, which is an achievement in infrastructure construction in itself.

The ceremonial opening of the airport took place on 24 September 2021. The project was realised thanks to private investments from the SIBUR company to ensure transport accessibility for the largest petrochemical complex "ZapSibNeftekhim" and to increase Tobolsk's attractiveness as a tourist centre. The airport was named in honour of Semyon Ulyanovich Remezov — an outstanding Siberian cartographer, architect, and historian, whose life was closely connected with this city.

The airport received its first technical flight in June 2021, and regular passenger air service began as early as 16 October 2021. Since its opening, the airport has not undergone significant reconstruction as it was built using state-of-the-art technology. Its runway is capable of accommodating modern medium-haul aircraft, such as the Airbus A320/321 and Boeing 737, which immediately ensured Tobolsk's connection with the country's largest cities.

An interesting fact from the airport's history is that it became the first major airport in modern Russia built entirely with funds from a private investor. This event marks a new stage in the development of regional aviation and highlights the strategic importance of Tobolsk on the country's map, opening it up to thousands of new travellers and business guests.

Services and Amenities

Remezov Airport (RMZ) is a modern and compact terminal complex offering passengers all necessary services for a comfortable wait for their flight. Within the terminal, you will find several cafes and vending machines where you can have a snack or a coffee. For those looking for souvenirs, there are shops selling products reflecting the culture and history of the region, as well as travel essentials.

For passengers who value enhanced comfort, a VIP Lounge operates at the airport. Here you can wait for your flight in a calm atmosphere, utilise beverage services, read the latest press, and relax in comfortable armchairs. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the terminal, and charging stations and sockets for electronic devices are provided in the waiting halls.

ATMs for cash withdrawals are installed in the airport. In case of necessity, passengers can visit the medical point, where first aid will be provided. For travellers with small children, a Mother and Child room is equipped with everything necessary: changing tables, a place for feeding, and a play area.

The terminal is fully adapted for passengers with reduced mobility. There are ramps, elevators, and specially equipped washrooms. Passengers can book an assistance service in advance, and airport staff will help with navigating all pre-flight procedures, from check-in to boarding the aircraft.

Although there are no hotels directly on the airport grounds, travellers can easily reach the city and stay in one of the hotels in Tobolsk. For business travellers, conference hall services or meeting rooms may be available within the framework of VIP service, allowing for efficient use of time before departure to resolve work matters. This makes the airport an important transport hub for business tourism in this part of Russia.

Where to Eat

Despite its compact size, Remezov Airport (RMZ) offers passengers several cosy options for a snack or a full lunch. Dining areas are located to be accessible for both departing passengers and those seeing them off, ensuring a comfortable wait for the flight.

The main place to refresh yourself is the cafe located in the general hall of the terminal (before the security checkpoint). Here you can sit comfortably while waiting for flight check-in. Typically, in the sterile area (after passing security control), a small branch or coffee corner also operates, where you can take drinks and light snacks on board with you.

The main highlight of the local catering is the opportunity to try dishes of Siberian cuisine. Travellers wishing to enjoy the authentic taste of this region of Russia should look out for traditional ukha (fish soup) or hearty pelmeni (dumplings). For those in a hurry, more familiar options are always available: sandwiches, fresh pastries, salads, as well as a wide selection of hot and cold drinks, including aromatic coffee and tea.

Regarding prices, they correspond to the average level for airports: slightly higher than in the city, but quite acceptable. Passengers with strict dietary restrictions (for example, gluten-free or Halal food) should check the availability of suitable dishes with the staff in advance, as the specialised menu may be limited. However, standard vegetarian options are usually present.

Cafes and coffee shops at the airport operate in accordance with the flight schedule, opening a few hours before the first departure and closing after the last one departs. This guarantees that no passenger will go hungry. For a quick snack, a coffee and a bun are ideal, and if you have time, do not miss the chance to enjoy a hot soup — this will be an excellent conclusion to your visit to Tobolsk.

Travel Tips

To ensure your journey through Remezov Airport goes smoothly and without unnecessary stress, take advantage of our tips. A little preparation will help save time, money, and nerves, making the start of your trip as comfortable as possible.

Arrival time at the airport. Remezov Airport is modern and compact, but we recommend arriving here no later than 2 hours before a domestic flight departure. This time is sufficient to calmly check in luggage, pass through security, and find your boarding gate without haste.

Check-in and security. To save time, check in for your flight online — this service is available with most airlines 24 hours before departure. If you are travelling with hand luggage only, you can proceed directly to security with an electronic boarding pass. The security control procedure is standard: be prepared to remove metal objects from pockets, take off outer clothing, and remove electronics from your bag.

Seat selection on the plane. Want to admire Siberian landscapes from a height? Choose a window seat. If the ability to stand up freely and stretch your legs is more important to you, your choice is an aisle seat. Seats in the front part of the cabin usually allow for a quicker exit from the aircraft upon arrival.

Hand luggage. Remember the general rules: liquids can be carried in containers of no more than 100 ml, packed in one transparent bag. Sharp and cutting objects (knives, scissors) are prohibited. Power banks must be carried only in hand luggage.

Transfer passengers. If you have a connecting flight in Tobolsk, clarify at check-in whether you need to collect your luggage. Usually, when transferring to a flight of the same airline or alliance, luggage is transferred automatically. Follow the "Transit/Transfer" signs to quickly find the necessary gate.

Customs control. For flights within Russia, there is no need to go through customs control. If you are flying on an international charter flight, standard rules apply: declare sums exceeding the established limit and goods requiring special permission.

Saving time and money. Study options for getting to the city or from the city to the airport in advance — compare taxi costs and bus schedules. Take an empty water bottle with you, which can be filled at a drinking fountain after passing security.

In case of flight delay. First of all, contact a representative of your airline. Depending on the duration of the delay, you are entitled to drinks (after 2 hours), hot meals (after 4 hours), and hotel accommodation (for longer waits, especially at night). Remain calm and check information at the airline counter or on the online flight board.
