How to Get There
The station is situated in an extremely favourable location — on the northern border of the historic centre, so getting there is effortless.
On foot: This is the simplest and most pleasant method if you are staying in the centre. From the main Prešernov Square (Prešernov trg) and the famous Triple Bridge, a walk along Miklošičeva cesta street will take just 10–15 minutes.
Public Transport: A major transport hub is located right in front of the station building. Many city LPP buses arrive here (for example, lines 2, 9, 18, 27). The stop is named "Kolodvor".
Taxi: A taxi rank is located directly at the exit of the station building. A trip from most districts of the city will take 10–20 minutes and will cost on average 5–10 Euros.

Ticket counters are located in the central hall, where you can purchase tickets for both domestic and international destinations (staff usually speak English well). There are also machines for self-service ticket purchases.
For luggage storage, automatic lockers are provided (these operate on coins, so it is advisable to have small change ready). The premises include a small waiting area, paid restrooms, ATMs, and an information desk. Wi-Fi is available in certain zones, though the signal may be unstable. For passengers with reduced mobility, elevators are provided for descending into the underground passage and ascending to the platforms.
Where to Eat
Inside the station building itself, the selection of establishments is modest, but you will find options to satisfy your hunger. There are several kiosks serving pastries, sandwiches, and coffee, as well as vending machines for a very quick snack.
If you have 30–40 minutes to spare, it is better to step outside the building:
Fast Food: In the immediate vicinity (in the adjacent building), there is a McDonald’s that stays open late.
Local Pastries: Near the railway and bus stations, there are many bakeries (pekarna) where you can buy burek — a popular puff pastry pie filled with meat or cheese. It is filling and inexpensive (average bill 3–5 Euros).
Coffee and Lunch: If you walk 5 minutes along Miklošičeva street towards the centre, you will find numerous cosy cafes and restaurants with a more diverse menu.
Station History
The history of railway transport in Ljubljana began in the mid-19th century. The first station building was constructed in 1849, when the first train from Vienna arrived in the city. This event marked Ljubljana's inclusion in the Southern Railway (Südbahn), which connected Vienna with the port of Trieste, giving a powerful boost to the economic development of the region.
The station building we see today has preserved features of Austro-Hungarian architecture, although it has undergone several renovations and modernisations, including the addition of a clock tower. For decades, the station remained the main gateway to the city. Currently, large-scale plans are being discussed to create a new transport centre, "Emonika", which is set to completely transform the station district in the future.
Passenger Tips
Arrival Time: Since the station is small, there is no need to arrive 2 hours early. Being there 20–30 minutes before the train departs is sufficient to calmly find the correct platform.
Tickets: If you did not manage to buy a ticket at the counter, for many domestic routes you can purchase one from the conductor on the train (with a small surcharge). For international trains, it is better to purchase tickets in advance.
Safety: The station is generally safe, but as with any transport hub, please keep an eye on your belongings. At night (from 00:00 to 04:00), the station becomes quiet, and the waiting hall may be closed for cleaning.
Transfers: If you have a transfer to a bus for the airport or Lake Bled, simply exit the railway station building — the bus station will be right in front of you, so there is no need to search for it.
