Reaching Malmö Syd station from the city center is fastest and most convenient by train. Regional Öresundståg express trains and Pågatågen commuter trains depart from the Central Station (Malmö C) and Triangeln station every 15–20 minutes. The travel time from the center is only about 10 minutes.

The station is also served by city buses connecting the Svågertorp district with residential areas. A taxi stand is located near the exit; a trip from the center will cost approximately 200–300 SEK. Walking from the historical center is not recommended due to the long distance (over 10 km), however, you can walk from the nearest IKEA store in 5–7 minutes.

At Malmö Syd station, passengers are offered a basic set of services necessary for a comfortable trip. The station building has a small heated waiting hall, which is particularly useful during windy weather. For ticket purchases, there are self-service machines that accept bank cards (staffed counters may not be available).

The history of Malmö Syd station is closely linked to the realization of a grand infrastructure project — the construction of the Øresund Bridge. The station was opened in 2000 and initially played the role of Sweden's main southern gateway for trains heading to Denmark.

Before the opening of the city railway tunnel (Citytunneln) in 2010, many long-distance trains stopped here, bypassing the then-dead-end Central Station. After the reconstruction of the city's transport system, the station's role changed: it is now an important commuter hub serving the southern districts of Malmö and providing a convenient transfer for motorists to trains heading towards Copenhagen.

Since the platforms are in an open space, it can be quite windy in winter and autumn — please dress warmly. If you are traveling with a transfer to Kastrup Airport, allow at least 20 minutes for the connection.
