Station History
The history of the modern Buffalo-Depew Station began in the late 1970s. The station was built in 1979 to replace the historic, but by that time dilapidated, Buffalo Central Terminal. The old terminal was too large and expensive to maintain, and was also located in an area that was becoming less convenient for passengers.
The new building in Depew became an example of Amtrak's "standard design" of that era — functional and compact. Since opening, the station has taken on the role of the region's main railway gateway, ensuring stable connections between the Great Lakes and the Atlantic Coast, and continues to play a key role in the transport system of Erie County.
Passenger Tips
Experienced travellers recommend arriving at the station 30–45 minutes before the train's departure. This is especially important if you need to check luggage into a special carriage, as baggage acceptance usually closes half an hour before departure.
