The history of this green space began between 1917 and 1919, when the city authorities purchased the land from the Resser family. Originally called Linden Woods, it was intended as a place for relaxation among centuries-old trees. As early as 1921, a campground opened here and quickly became popular: in 1922, a special caretaker accompanied by a police patrol on horses and motorcycles was on duty to maintain order.

The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) made a significant contribution to the park's appearance in 1934. They were responsible for laying the main roads and constructing picnic shelters. Notably, the main wooden shelter from that time has been preserved to this day and continues to serve visitors, standing as a living monument to the Great Depression era.

In the mid-20th century, the park's territory decreased slightly: in 1955, part of the land was sold for the construction of the I-94 highway. The city directed the proceeds toward developing sports infrastructure, allowing Fargo to maintain a balance between natural areas and the modern needs of its growing population.

To simply stroll through the shady alleys and enjoy the river view, one hour will be enough. However, Lindenwood Park invites a more leisurely pace, so most visitors prefer to spend 2 to 4 hours here.
