What to Do

Visitors to the parish can not only participate in solemn Catholic Masses but also dedicate time to personal prayer. Be sure to approach the famous outdoor bronze statue of Our Lady of Guadalupe. This is the heart of the shrine, where an atmosphere of deep reverence always prevails.

Inside the church, the magnificent stained glass window installed in 1998 draws the eye. It depicts the apparition of the Virgin Mary to Saint Juan Diego. The fine craftsmanship and play of light create a special, uplifting mood within the church. For those seeking absolute silence, the Perpetual Adoration Chapel is open.

A special time to visit is December 12th, when the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe is celebrated. On this day, the parish grounds are filled with pilgrims, and festive services and cultural events are held, reflecting the rich traditions of the Mexican people and the Catholic faith.

The shrine is located in the central part of the city at 1401 Garden Ln, Midland. The most convenient way to get here is by car, using GPS coordinates for precise navigation. Parking is available on the parish complex grounds for visitors using private transportation.

If you prefer public transport, it is worth studying the Midland city bus schedule in advance. You can also always use taxi services or popular ride-sharing apps from anywhere in the city — this is the fastest way to reach the site, especially if you are in the business district.

History & Facts

The history of this spiritual center dates back to the late 19th century. In 1898, St. George's Church became the first Catholic church in Midland. In those days, there was no resident pastor, and priests traveled by train from neighboring Stanton to hold services. It wasn't until 1933 that the community received its own permanent mentor.

The modern chapter of its history began in 1960 when the Our Lady of Guadalupe church building was erected at its current location. The solemn consecration of the new temple was performed by Bishop John L. Morkovsky. The old St. George's Church was closed, and the parish gradually expanded: in 1969, it became fully independent, and the All Saint's Hall parish center was built by volunteers at that time.

In the following decades, the complex developed actively. In 1988, the Perpetual Adoration Chapel was added, and in 1993, Bishop Michael Pfeifer consecrated the majestic outdoor shrine in the southeastern part of the grounds. Interestingly, to expand the parish territory, the city even had to close and sell a portion of Cherry Lane to the church.

Time Needed

For a brief introduction to the shrine and a quiet prayer at the statue of Our Lady, 30–60 minutes is usually sufficient. This time is enough to see the exterior architecture and feel the peace of the location.

If you plan to examine the stained glass windows in detail, visit the parish church, and spend time in the Perpetual Adoration Chapel, it is better to set aside about 1.5–2 hours for your visit. You should also take the Mass schedule into account if you wish to participate.

Working Hours

The doors of the shrine and church are usually open to believers throughout the day; however, the parish office hours are strictly defined. From Monday to Thursday, the administration is open from 09:00 to 17:00 (with a lunch break from 12:00 to 13:30), and on Friday, the workday is shortened to 16:00. The office is closed on weekends.

Since Mass schedules and access to the buildings may change depending on the church calendar or weddings, tourists are strongly encouraged to check the current information on the parish's official website before visiting.
