General Weather Overview

The climate in Westchester can be described as temperate, with four distinct seasons. The weather here is quite comfortable for travel at any time of year, without extreme temperature fluctuations. Winter is usually cool, with averages around zero degrees, while summer delights with warmth and plenty of sunny days.

The warmest period is the summer months, especially July and August, when the air warms up to an average of +24°C, and maximum temperatures reach +28°C. This is the ideal time for walks and sightseeing. In winter, in January and February, the thermometer often drops slightly below zero, so warm clothing will be required for a trip during this season.

A characteristic feature of the local weather is the fairly frequent presence of precipitation throughout the year. Even in the warmest months, the number of days with precipitation can reach 13–15, indicating changeable weather. When planning a visit, it is worth considering this factor and always keeping an umbrella or a light raincoat with you, as rain is a regular occurrence here, regardless of the season.

Temperature

In Westchester, the coldest month is January, when the thermometer averages around the 0°C mark. At this time, night temperatures drop to -3.4°C, and during the day the air warms up to only 3.5°C. February and December show similar dynamics: even in the height of winter, daytime figures often reach 6–7°C, avoiding extreme frosts, although nights remain cool.

Summer brings steady warmth to the region. The peak temperatures occur in July, when the daytime maximum averages 28.1°C. The entire summer season, from June to August, pleases with comfortable conditions: during the day the air warms up to 27–28°C, and nights remain mild and warm (around 18–20°C), creating an ideal atmosphere for relaxation without exhausting heat.

Spring and autumn are times of smooth changes and pleasant weather. May and September are especially good for travel: daytime temperatures in these months range from 22°C to 25°C. A characteristic feature of the local climate is the noticeable daily amplitude: the difference between the daytime maximum and nighttime minimum is usually from 6 to 10 degrees. This ensures pleasant freshness in the mornings and evenings even after a sunny afternoon.

Precipitation

When planning a trip to Westchester, it is worth considering that precipitation falls here quite regularly throughout the year, although its character changes depending on the season. There is no pronounced dry period here, so travellers are advised to always have an umbrella or a light raincoat with them, regardless of the month chosen for the visit.

The rainiest time of the year is late spring and early summer. The peak frequency of precipitation occurs in May, when about 15 rainy days are recorded. In June and July, rains are also not uncommon (an average of 14 days with precipitation), but in the warm season, they often pass in the form of refreshing showers, which can quickly be replaced by sunny weather.

Late autumn and winter can be called a relatively drier period. For example, in November, the number of days with precipitation drops to eight. In the winter months, when the average temperature hovers around zero or drops below, rain is often replaced by snow. Snowfalls are most likely from December to February, creating beautiful winter landscapes in the region.

What to Pack

When packing for Westchester, it is important to consider the distinct seasonality of this region. Winters here are cool, with temperatures often dropping below zero, so be sure to take a warm jacket or down coat, a hat, a scarf, and gloves. Since in spring, especially in May, the number of rainy days increases noticeably, waterproof shoes and a reliable umbrella or compact raincoat will become your best assistants on the journey.

Summer in this part of the country (USA) is usually warm and comfortable, with average temperatures around +24°C, but the weather can be changeable. For this time of year, light breathable clothing made of natural fabrics, sunglasses, and sunscreen are ideal, however, do not forget to grab a hoodie or a light cardigan for cool evenings. In autumn, the best strategy would be the principle of layering: a combination of T-shirts, sweaters, and windbreakers will allow you to feel cozy during any whims of nature. And, of course, regardless of the season, put comfortable shoes for long walks in your suitcase.
