Best Resorts and Beaches in Morocco

S
Sasha

Going to Morocco and not visiting the sea is practically a crime. This African region is rich not only in “passive” beach holidays but also in active ones. Therefore, it’s important to figure out where to go to relax depending on your needs.

We have compiled a list of the best beaches, where to go for a holiday in Morocco, where it’s best to catch a wave, and where you can go with a baby. Let’s go!

Sidi Ifni

The city of Sidi Ifni, located on the Atlantic coast and surrounded by desert, now belongs to Morocco, although it was owned by Spain until 1969. It is most often known as a fishing port.

The beach of the same name is a paradise for those who come here with children. The sandy beach stretches in a long strip along the Atlantic Ocean, whose waters are quite calm in this area. All the infrastructure is conducive to a long rest by the water and getting a tan. Be sure to visit the city in addition to the beach — you will be amazed by the colonial architecture and the daily life of the locals.

Essaouira

Perhaps one of the most beautiful cities in Morocco, which can be reached quickly by buying tickets to Marrakech — there’s only about a three-hour drive between the cities.

Essaouira is known for its medina, white houses with blue walls. Cats hide in the narrow streets, waiting for treats from local fishermen. The city is loved by fans of active sports. Surfers usually expect big waves in winter, while in summer the Atlantic coast is quite calm — an ideal time to quietly bask in the sun.

Martil

Welcome to the western Mediterranean Sea! This is where Martil is located, a famous seaside resort and fishing port.

When you come to Martil beach, you can count on a clean beach with white sand, stretching eight kilometers along the Alboran Sea. For a comfortable holiday, there is everything here: sun loungers, clear water, cozy cafes with local cuisine. And if you suddenly want to go fishing, there will be a place for that hobby too.

Quemado

Quemado beach is located near the city of Al Hoceima on the Alboran coast. It is considered a pearl of the Mediterranean, as it features an incredible beach of fine white sand and two lagoons. For its cleanliness and comfortable conditions for visitors, Quemado even received the “Blue Flag” award. If you are planning a trip to Morocco independently, be sure to include this beach in your must-visit list!

One part of the lagoon is designed for a relaxing holiday by the sea, while the other is for boat trips and motorboats. In any case, the turquoise waters of this area usually attract tourists. Therefore, when you come here, be prepared for many people. But if you are an “early bird” aiming to enjoy the sea before 11:00 AM, you can count on any preferred spot on Quemado — it’s not crowded here in the morning.

Saïdia

Saïdia is considered the easternmost beach, located near the Algerian border. It is a long sandy strip, covered with dunes and stretching along the Mediterranean Sea.

This spot is often chosen by family tourists with children, as the entry into the sea on the beach is quite gentle, and there are no sharp changes in depth at the bottom. Saïdia also received the “Blue Flag” for comfortable conditions for recreation and cleanliness. People also come here to go yachting, diving, or windsurfing. All in all, a full cycle of both active and passive recreation is guaranteed for everyone here!

Legzira

Legzira beach, located on the Atlantic coast of Morocco, is more likely to be known to “active” vacationers. People come here to kite-surf, try windsurfing, or simply fish in the morning before the wind gains its full strength.

For holidays with children, a specific time of day needs to be chosen here, but usually people come to Legzira beach not so much for swimming as for the unique nature of this location. Due to erosion, the rocks on the beach gradually crumbled, forming unique brick-colored arches. Tourists coming here compare Legzira to the landscapes of Mars.

Oualidia

Oualidia is a beach also located in a lagoon, separated from the ocean by rocks. This is what made it a comfortable location for a peaceful holiday without strong gusts of wind. There will be plenty of people here every day who just want to bask in the water.

Besides the beach holiday itself, it is definitely worth visiting the city of Oualidia, whose territory consists of salt marshes and dunes. During the off-season, migratory birds such as flamingos, storks, avocets, and herons stop here. And don’t forget to visit the local oyster farms if you love seafood!

Tangier

Tangier is a port city on the Strait of Gibraltar. The beach of the same name, located within the city, is considered one of the most popular among travelers. Whenever you arrive, Tangier will be favored by family tourists, yachting enthusiasts, volleyball players, and those wishing to ride a camel.

Therefore, if you want a more secluded holiday, head to Playa Blanca. This is a small natural beach with cozy cafes, sun loungers, umbrellas, and no big waves. In short, a good place with a calm atmosphere and gentle sun!

Agadir

The central beach in Agadir is designed for those who don’t like scorching heat. Due to the cold Canary Current stretching along the coast, the water here is cooler than in other locations. By the way, flights to Agadir are available, so you can buy tickets on Kupi.com and not worry about how to get there.

Agadir beach is considered one of the most comfortable and well-equipped, which is why it is usually teeming with tourists. Despite its particular popularity, you can have a quite budget-friendly holiday here. However, those who want a luxurious holiday in Agadir can also count on first-class service.

All in all, we wish you a great holiday in Morocco and high waves only when you want them!
