How to check a hotel booking?

We have already written about how to check an airline ticket, but with hotels, the situation is fundamentally different. They cannot be checked on the website of a global booking system, as these systems only serve airlines.

So, how to check if a hotel is booked? If you booked on an agency’s website, for example, Booking.com, then information about a successful booking will be reflected in your personal account. But this is a matter of trust in a particular service. Our tourists like to double-check everything. So what is the most reliable way to check a hotel booking? The answer is very simple: only the hotel itself will give you 100% reliable information and confirm the booking. You can do this in 2 ways:

call the hotel
write to the hotel

If your English isn’t great, and you don’t know the language of the country you’re traveling to, checking the booking will be problematic. But you can always use an online translator, for example, Google Translate. A letter composed this way might not be perfectly grammatically correct, but you will be understood. Don’t forget to specify how exactly you booked the hotel room, for example, through the agency Booking.com, as well as the surname of the person for whom the room is booked.

Please note that an agency and a hotel search engine are completely different things.

If you found the hotel on a search engine, this information will not help the hotel in any way. The hotel interacts only with the agency, and to resolve any booking issues, you must contact the agency. If you booked a hotel through a travel agency, for example, by purchasing a tour package to Turkey, then contacting the hotel is useless. In most cases, only the tour operator has information about who is checked in and where. Most of their websites have a special section where you can check the booking status by application number.
