How to plan a round-the-world trip?
Have you ever thought about a round-the-world trip? If so, you have a great opportunity to make your dream a reality. We have already written about airline alliances and mentioned that they all offer special fares for round-the-world flights. Today we will tell you about the Round the World pass from the SkyTea alliance.
To plan your dream trip, the alliance's website has a wonderful application called «Round the World Planner». With its help, you can plan your trip lasting from 10 days to 1 year, and you can make up to 15 stopovers along the way. There are, however, certain restrictions, but there are only two:
- your travel itinerary must include one transatlantic flight and one flight crossing the Pacific Ocean.
- the itinerary must start and end in the same country, though not necessarily in the same city.
Once the itinerary is planned, you only need to book the first international flight, and you can leave the rest of the trip with an «open» date. You can book the remaining flights at any convenient time. Passengers are offered four mileage packages, depending on the travel distance in miles: • 39,000 miles • 34,000 miles • 29,000 miles • 26,000 miles*
* the 26,000-mile package is not offered in all countries.
So, let's get started... To plan your itinerary, launch the application on the Sky Team website

You have 2 options for planning your itinerary:
- You don't know the order in which you want to visit the desired cities
- You know the order in which you want to visit the cities
For example, we chose option № 1. First of all, we need to decide which city we will start our journey from:

Select the cities you plan to visit during your trip. And click the "Create shortest path" button.

Here's the itinerary Sky Team suggested to us:

For convenience, you can view it in this format:

Now let's move on to the schedule. We need to decide on the date...

and choose a flight:

We can choose the remaining dates and flights in advance, but it's better to leave them "open"; maybe we'll want to stay somewhere longer :) That's it! Now you can save, print, or email your itinerary and contact a travel agency or airline to purchase your Round the World pass.

Here's what the saved itinerary looks like:

Have a great round-the-world trip! :)
