Why it’s important to travel more in youth

E
Evgenia

Today you’re finishing university, and then poof—you’re 50. And you haven’t really seen the world! Or do you think you’ll have a blast in retirement, like the Chinese? But they have a different story. Traveling in pre-retirement age is also great, and it has its advantages. But in this article, we’ll find out why it’s important to make the most of it while you’re young and energetic.

Adaptation to a new place

The younger we are, the easier it is for us to get used to a new place, weather, and time zone. We don’t need much time to recover, which means more time for fun!

Adaptation also refers to physical and intellectual loads, and learning something happens faster. For example, moving to another country, finding a job there, making new friends, and learning a language is easier while we are young. In old age, it becomes more difficult and requires more time.

comfort in travel

Minimum for comfort

Admit it, when you’re young, you don’t really pay much attention to comfort. A shared shower in a hostel? No big deal. The hotel is 4 km from the center? Pff, it’s just a walk! Spend the night in a tent in a park? Now that’s interesting!

But the older we get, the less we get involved in such adventures. We look for comfortable hotels with breakfast, use public transport more often to avoid walking a couple of stops, and are completely unwilling to spend the night sitting at a train station just to avoid paying extra for a hotel. Our body and bones demand soft featherbeds and healthy sleep!

And yet, the spirit of adventure lies in such things, and if you don’t experience it now, there will be nothing to remember.

More reasons to travel

Before we get bogged down with a career and family — that’s a reason to go on a trip! Gather a company of like-minded people or go alone in search of new friends or yourself. With age, we become burdened with obligations. A month-long vacation at work might not be granted, and you can’t abandon your family for half a year to winter in Thailand (if going together isn’t an option). And all that will be left of past adventures are trips to some resort a couple of times a year. There are advantages to this too, but it takes time to truly appreciate them.

Discounts

Alas, discounts for pensioners are not available everywhere. But people under 30 have a chance to hit the jackpot. In some countries, students and young people get price reductions here and there. And if you get international youth cards like ISIC or EYCA, you can get discounts even on tickets and hotels (at least). The cards are valid for one year and anyone up to 30 years old (inclusive) can apply. Very convenient for travel: discounts on museum entrance fees, reduced fares, and so on.

Experiences

Although it’s individual, for most people, with age, that wild interest in everything that was present at 20 gradually decreases. We have already seen a lot in our years, and there is little that can surprise us anymore. Noisy companies outside the window cause annoyance, not a desire to go party, and there’s more skepticism and grumbling in queues.

travel experiences

Therefore, you need to constantly fuel your interest and discover new places. But the fact remains: conquering Elbrus at 50 is harder than at 25. Climbing to a viewpoint on a high mountain, making your way through roots and stones, is also not so easy when you’re over 40.

Friends, while you are young, travel as often as possible, climb as high as possible, or swim as far as possible. Get involved in pleasant adventures, be active, because you’ll always have time to lie on a resort beach:)
