Pet Travel Rules with La Compagnie
La Compagnie is renowned for being one of the most pet-friendly airlines across the Atlantic, offering an exceptionally generous policy for travelers wishing to bring their furry companions. Unlike many carriers that restrict cabin pets to very small sizes, this all-business class airline allows heavier pets to accompany their owners in the cabin, ensuring a stress-free journey between Milan and New York City.
Transport Options
Please note that La Compagnie operates a boutique service with specific aircraft configurations. As a result, pet transport is exclusively available in the cabin. The airline does not transport animals in the cargo hold or as checked baggage.
In Cabin (Carry-on)
This is the only method of transport available for pets on La Compagnie flights. The policy is designed to keep your pet safe and close to you throughout the flight.
- Carrier Dimensions: The carrier must be ventilated and soft-sided, with maximum dimensions of 55 x 35 x 25 cm (approx. 21.6 x 13.7 x 9.8 inches).
- Maximum Weight: The combined weight of the pet and the carrier must not exceed 15 kg (33 lbs). This is significantly higher than the standard 8 kg limit found on most other airlines.
- Allowed Pet Types: Dogs, cats, and dwarf rabbits are welcome on board.
- Limit per Passenger: Each passenger is permitted to travel with only one pet.
- Flight Limit: There is a strict limit of 3 to 4 pets per flight, so early booking is essential.
In Cargo Hold (Checked Baggage)
Service Not Available. La Compagnie does not offer the option to transport pets as checked baggage in the hold. All pets must meet the requirements to travel in the cabin; otherwise, they cannot be transported on these flights.
As Cargo (For Large Animals)
Service Not Available. The airline does not operate a live animal cargo service. Owners of pets exceeding the 15 kg cabin limit will need to make alternative arrangements with a dedicated pet shipping company or a different commercial carrier.
Required Documentation
To ensure smooth entry into the EU or the US, you must have all necessary paperwork prepared well in advance. Requirements may vary based on your destination.
- Veterinary Passport: A valid European Union Pet Passport (for travel to/from Europe) or official veterinary documents.
- Health Certificate: A certificate of good health issued by a licensed veterinarian, typically dated within 10 days of travel.
- Vaccinations: Proof of a valid anti-rabies vaccination (administered at least 21 days before travel).
- Microchip: The pet must be identified by an electronic microchip (ISO 11784/11785 compliant).
- US Entry Forms: For flights to the United States, passengers must comply with current CDC regulations, which may include a specific CDC Dog Import Form.
Service Costs
Traveling with a pet incurs a fee, which is fixed per flight sector. Prices are subject to change, but generally follow this structure:
- In-Cabin Fee: Approximately €200 to $250 per flight (or roughly 10% of the ticket fare depending on the booking class).
- Note: Fees are non-refundable and must be paid at the time of booking to secure the space.
Preparation Tips
Since the number of pets per flight is strictly limited, preparation is key to a successful trip.
- Book Early: Contact the airline at least 48 hours before departure (preferably weeks in advance) to reserve a spot for your pet.
- Carrier Comfort: Ensure your pet is acclimated to their carrier before the trip. The bag must fit securely in the floor space in front of your seat.
- Feeding: Avoid feeding your pet a large meal right before the flight to prevent airsickness; small amounts of water are recommended.
- Arrival: Arrive at the airport early to allow extra time for document checks at the check-in counter.
Restrictions
Even with a generous policy, certain safety and health restrictions apply.
- Minimum Age: Pets must be at least 6 months old to travel (especially for entry into the US due to rabies regulations).
- Behavior: Animals must remain odorless and well-behaved; aggressive pets may be denied boarding.
- Prohibited Animals: Rodents (other than dwarf rabbits), reptiles, and birds are not accepted.
- Service Animals: Recognized service dogs travel free of charge but must be pre-registered with the airline.
Important: We strongly recommend contacting La Compagnie's customer service directly before booking to confirm space availability and to verify the latest entry requirements for Milan or the USA, as regulations can change frequently.
