What to Do

The main reason to visit Wilson Brewing is to taste the freshest beer. Be sure to order their signature "paddle"—a tasting flight of six samples that lets you explore a variety of flavors: from the light Lighthouse Session Ale to the rich, dark Lost Sailor Dark Ale with notes of coffee and chocolate. Fans of unique flavors might be lucky enough to catch seasonal releases, such as ginger beer or unique varieties aged in local whisky barrels.

In addition to the drinks, the venue is known for its food offerings. From the second half of the week, guest food trucks begin operating here, offering a diverse menu ranging from juicy burgers to gourmet snacks with mushrooms and mozzarella. This is a great opportunity to try street food paired with the perfect craft beer.

The bar's atmosphere is perfect for socializing: you can sit at the counter and ask the bartenders about the intricacies of the brewing process or choose an outdoor spot. If you are traveling with family, children will find plenty to do in the special play area while the adults enjoy their break. Check out the small merch display—you can buy branded clothing or grab a few cans of your favorite beer to take home as a souvenir.

Getting There

Finding Wilson Brewing is easy, as it's located right in the city center on one of its main streets—Stirling Terrace. If you're already in the central part of town, a walk to the bar will take no more than 5–10 minutes, allowing you to enjoy the architecture of the historic district along the way.

For those who prefer public transport, there are bus stops within walking distance served by major city routes. If you are arriving by car, parking spaces can usually be found near the venue, though keep in mind the popularity of this area in the evenings and on weekends. A taxi ride from anywhere in the center will take just a few minutes.

Travelers arriving at Albany Airport (ALH) can reach the brewery in about 15 minutes (a distance of approximately 13 km). If you are coming from Perth, prepare for a scenic drive along the South Coast Highway, which takes between 5 and 6 hours.

History & Facts

The story of this place began with a big dream and a bold step. The founder of Wilson Brewing, Matty Wilson, worked for a long time in the mining industry on a "fly-in fly-out" schedule, but his true passion was always home brewing. At some point, he decided to leave his career behind and, along with his wife Jessica, dedicated himself to creating a local product in his hometown.

Interestingly, the brewery was built literally by hand on the site of a former plant nursery. Matty assembled the equipment himself, including the brewing vats and the bottling line. Initially, the project was intended as a small-scale production of kegs for local restaurants, but the immense interest from residents led to the opening of a full-scale bar in 2019.

Since then, the business has been constantly expanding. In just a few years, it has grown from a tiny family startup into a prominent player in the Western Australian craft market. Despite the installation of powerful modern fermentation systems and automated bottling lines, the brewery maintains the spirit of a family business, where every brew has a personal story and a love for the local region behind it.

The brand philosophy is built on reflecting the uniqueness of the South West. The brewers actively use local ingredients and even collaborate with representatives of the Indigenous community. For example, some varieties feature the traditional Australian fruit quandong, and recipes are developed with the involvement of Noongar elders.

Time Needed

For a standard visit, including a tasting flight of several beers and a light snack, 1–1.5 hours is usually sufficient. This is enough time to appreciate the interior and soak up the atmosphere of a modern Australian craft bar.

If you plan to come with a large group or family during food truck operating hours, you should set aside up to 3 hours. The relaxed atmosphere, along with the availability of board games and toys for children, encourages a long and leisurely stay, especially on weekends.
