At the heart of the complex is a meticulously recreated miniature Dutch village. Here, you can see working windmills, tiny canals, and authentic handcrafted building models. Founded by a Dutch immigrant, this park has become a true cultural bridge connecting Australia with the traditions of Northern Europe.

Beyond visual delights, The Clog Barn offers a look at the rare art of making wooden shoes—clogs. This place is famous for its hospitality, family atmosphere, and the opportunity to not only witness the craftsmanship but also taste the famous Dutch pancakes at the local cafe.

What to Do

The main highlight here is a stroll through the miniature village, which remains free to enter. You can examine detailed models of houses, windmills, and even a functioning garden railway set amidst tiny gardens. It’s an ideal spot for photos capturing the spirit of classic Holland.

Be sure to attend a live demonstration of clog making. Craftsmen use antique equipment brought from Europe, turning a rough block of wood into an elegant wooden shoe right before your eyes. In the souvenir shop afterward, you can purchase not only real clogs but also Delft porcelain, unique clocks, and traditional sweets.

A visit is best concluded at Big Oma’s Coffee House. It serves homemade Dutch dishes: fluffy pancakes, crepes, and cakes made from family recipes. A pleasant bonus is that the park is pet-friendly, so you can bring your dog even to the cafe terrace while enjoying a family outing.

Getting There

Finding The Clog Barn is easy, as the attraction is located right on the Pacific Highway. Its address—215 Pacific Hwy—makes it an ideal stop for those on a road trip along the scenic coast of New South Wales.

History & Facts

The story of this remarkable place began in 1984, when Dutch immigrant Tom Hartsuyker decided to turn an old caravan park into something special. Having arrived in Australia back in 1951, Tom was inspired in his later years by the miniature parks of Canberra and decided to recreate a piece of his homeland in his new country.

Building the miniature village was a family affair: Tom and his son John painstakingly created the models. Initially, they used cedar, but later switched to fiberglass so the structures could withstand the humid Australian climate. The main building, styled after a traditional Dutch farm, was completed by 1985, and the famous cafe opened a few years later.

Remarkably, even at the age of 93, founder Tom Hartsuyker continues to be actively involved in the park's life and works on new models in the workshop. Over its forty-year history, The Clog Barn has evolved from a simple roadside attraction into a significant cultural landmark, carefully preserving the heritage of Dutch craftsmen in the heart of Australia.

Time Needed

Tourists typically need 1 to 2 hours to leisurely explore the miniature village, watch the wooden shoes being made, and browse the souvenir shop. This is quite enough for an introductory visit.

However, if you plan to have a full breakfast or lunch at Big Oma’s Coffee House, you should set aside half a day. The cafe's cozy atmosphere and the opportunity for a peaceful stroll around the grounds encourage a more relaxed and unhurried pace.

The attraction welcomes guests daily, making it very convenient for planning a trip any day of the week. The Clog Barn opens at 8:00 AM and closes at 4:00 PM.
