What to Do

The main attraction here is, of course, active water play. Children can run through refreshing jets, press special buttons to activate fountains, and wait for the moment when a huge bucket tips a stream of water over them. This space brings pure joy and helps children of all ages interact with one another.

For those looking for a change of pace, a traditional playground is located within walking distance. There, you can find a themed castle, slides, sandboxes, and even a small climbing wall. Adults can take advantage of the outdoor fitness equipment or stroll along the park's scenic paths, which stretch for about 800 meters.

Don't forget to pack food for lunch: the park is equipped with excellent BBQ areas and picnic tables. And if you're feeling creative, you can try playing the outdoor musical instruments, such as the xylophones installed right within the play area.

Getting There

Getting to this picturesque spot in the suburb of North Perth is quite easy. Hyde Park Water Playground is located at the intersection of Vincent and Throssell streets. If you prefer public transport, city buses running from various parts of the city stop in the immediate vicinity of the entrance on Vincent Street.

For those traveling by car, free parking is provided around the park, making the visit very convenient. If you are staying in the center, a taxi ride will take only a few minutes, while fans of active walks can get here on foot—the distance from the city center is about 2–3 kilometers along well-maintained streets.

History & Facts

The history of this place is rooted deep in the past, when the area was known to the indigenous Noongar people as Boodjamooling. Originally, it was part of a chain of wetlands that European settlers later called "Third Swamp." In 1897, thanks to the initiative of Lyall Hall, the area was officially declared a public park, and in 1899, it received its current name in honor of London's Hyde Park.

At the beginning of the 20th century, active landscaping began: over 600 trees were planted, an artificial lake was created, and a fountain was installed. In the 1930s, the lake's banks were reinforced with stone walls, and in the 1960s, the park was modernized with the addition of a water playground and BBQ areas. An interesting fact: in 2012, a major restoration of the lakes was completed, aimed at restoring the local ecosystem.

Today, Hyde Park is a wonderful example of how a historical landscape can harmoniously blend with modern recreation areas, while preserving the memory of its origins and the natural value of the region.

Time Needed

To fully enjoy your time here, most visitors need between 1 and 2 hours. This is plenty of time for children to play with the water attractions to their heart's content, while adults relax in the shade of the majestic trees.

If you are planning a full picnic or want to take a leisurely walk around the lake, you should set aside about half a day for your visit. The flexibility of the space allows you to easily adapt the visit to your schedule, whether it's a short stop or a long family outing.

Working Hours

According to publicly available information, Hyde Park Water Playground is open to the public 24/7. This allows you to plan your visit for any time that suits you, whether it's early morning or the pre-sunset hours.

However, before heading out, we highly recommend checking the official City of Vincent website. Sometimes access to water attractions may be temporarily restricted for maintenance or due to seasonal changes in the water supply.
