History & Facts

The creation of this space is closely linked to the initiative of Heydar Aliyev, who ordered the construction of a monument dedicated to the national epic. The majestic "Kitabi Dede Gorgud" sculpture became not only an architectural landmark but also a symbol of the Azerbaijani people's deep historical past, embodied in stone.

\n\n

Interestingly, the history of this site as a recreation area began long before the modern complex appeared. Previously, it was home to Dzerzhinsky Park, where the Baku Children's Railway has operated since August 10, 1947. The construction of this narrow-gauge railway was a major event for the city, and the station buildings were designed in an elegant Oriental style, preserving the flavor of the era.

\n\n

In 2002, the territory received its current name, and the railway station was renovated. During the landscaping process, the old pine grove was transformed into a modern historical and ethnographic complex. Today, Dede Gorgud Park is the result of careful restoration, where new landscaping solutions harmonize with century-old trees and cultural monuments.

Time Needed

For a typical visit to see the sights, view the monument, and take a leisurely walk along the lake, you will need about 1–2 hours. This is plenty of time to soak in the atmosphere and take beautiful photos against the backdrop of the landscaped displays.

\n\n

If you plan to visit the Children's Railway or decide to have a full rest on the lawn, you should budget about 3 hours. The park is an excellent place to recharge in the middle of a busy sightseeing day before visiting other city attractions.

Working Hours

The park warmly welcomes visitors 24/7. This makes it accessible for walks at any time—whether it's early morning for exercise or late evening for a romantic date under the lamplight.

\n\n

While the grounds are open at all times, the operation of specific attractions, such as the Children's Railway, may have its own schedule. Before visiting specific entertainment facilities, it is recommended to check for up-to-date information on official websites or information boards.
