The climate in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, can be described as temperate with semi-arid features, giving the city distinct seasons. Guests can expect a hot and mostly dry summer, with average temperatures reaching +26°C and above, ideal for walking along the promenade and enjoying sunny days. Winters in Baku are usually mild, with average temperatures around +6°C to +9°C, without severe frosts, though cool windy periods can occur.

Spring (April-May) and autumn (September-October) are comfortable transitional seasons with pleasant moderate temperatures, inviting visitors to explore the city's numerous attractions. A distinctive feature of Baku's weather is low rainfall throughout the year. Summer months, from June to August, are particularly arid; rain at this time is a rarity, with only about 1 rainy day per month. A slight increase in days with precipitation (up to 10 days per month) occurs in late autumn and winter, but overall Baku delights with an abundance of sunlight, making it attractive to visit.

The temperature regime in Baku is characterized by noticeable seasonal changes. Throughout the year, average temperatures range from a cool +6.5°C in January and February, which are the coldest months, to a hot +26.7°C in August, the peak summer month. Minimum night temperatures in winter can drop to +4.8°C (in February), while daytime highs in summer reach +28.9°C (in August), creating a wide annual range of temperature sensations for residents and guests of the city.

Summer months in Baku, especially July and August, are distinguished by consistently hot weather. Average daily temperatures during this period confidently stay above +23°C, often rising to +26-29°C during the day. For example, in June the average temperature is +23.7°C (fluctuating from +21.4°C to +26.0°C), in July – +26.4°C (from +24.2°C to +28.6°C), and in August it reaches its peak – +26.7°C (from +24.5°C to +28.9°C). Given the almost complete absence of precipitation in the summer season (0 mm and only 1 rainy day per month), summer in Baku can be described as dry and sultry, ideal for beach holidays and evening walks along the promenade.

Winter in Baku, on the other hand, is quite mild and cool, but without severe frosts. The coldest months – January and February – have an average temperature of around +6.5°C. In January, the temperature range is from +5.0°C at night to +8.0°C during the day, and in February – from +4.8°C to +8.2°C. December is slightly warmer, with an average temperature of +8.9°C (from +7.6°C to +10.2°C). Temperature fluctuations between day and night exist throughout the year but are not extreme, averaging 3-5°C, which ensures relatively stable thermal conditions throughout the day.

Baku is characterized by very low rainfall throughout the year, highlighting its semi-arid climate. Nevertheless, one can distinguish between drier and relatively wetter periods. A distinct dry season is observed from April to September, when rainfall amounts tend towards zero.

The driest months in Baku are the summer ones – June, July, and August. During this period, 0 mm of precipitation falls, and the number of rainy days is minimal – only about 1 day per month. The spring months, April and May, as well as the beginning of autumn in September, are also practically devoid of precipitation (0 mm), although the number of days with possible precipitation can reach 3-5, which likely indicates very insignificant and short-lived phenomena.

The relatively "wetter" period falls in late autumn and winter, from October to March. However, even in these months, the amount of precipitation remains extremely low, amounting to only 1 mm per month. The highest number of rainy days occurs in November (on average 10 days), followed by December (8 days) and March (7 days). January, February, and October also have 5-6 days with precipitation. Given the low volumes, precipitation during these periods is likely to be light rain or drizzle. Winter temperatures rarely drop significantly below freezing, so snowfall is not a typical phenomenon, although it cannot be completely ruled out.

When packing your suitcase for a trip to Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, it is worth preparing for the local climate so that your wardrobe matches the weather. The main rule for any season is comfortable shoes, as you will surely want to walk a lot around this colourful city. In summer, from June to August, hot and mostly dry weather sets in Baku, with average air temperatures often exceeding +25°C, and rainfall being a rarity. During this period, your luggage should consist of light, breathable clothing made from natural fabrics (cotton, linen), a hat for sun protection, sunglasses, and, of course, sunscreen. A light wrap or long-sleeved shirt will come in handy for protection from the midday heat or for the evening cool by the sea.

For the spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November) months, the best strategy is layering your clothes. In spring, the weather in Baku gradually warms up: from an average of +8°C in March to a comfortable +18-20°C in May. In autumn, the temperature gradually decreases: from a warm +22-24°C in September to a cooler +12-14°C in November. In these transitional seasons, T-shirts, long-sleeved shirts, a light sweater or cardigan, as well as jeans or comfortable trousers will be very appropriate. Be sure to bring a windbreaker or light jacket, as Baku is known for its sometimes strong winds. In winter (December-February), it becomes noticeably cooler, with average temperatures ranging from +5°C to +10°C. You will need warm clothing: sweaters, warm trousers, a windproof jacket or coat, as well as a hat, scarf, and gloves. Although heavy and prolonged rains are not characteristic of Baku, a small folding umbrella or a light raincoat may prove useful, especially between October and March, when the probability of light precipitation is slightly higher.
