The Longmen Grottoes (Longmenshan, which means "Dragon's Gate Stone Caves") are one of the most impressive and significant Buddhist cave temple complexes not only in China but in the entire world. This unique historical site is located in Henan Province, approximately 12-13 kilometers south of the ancient city of Luoyang. The caves are skillfully carved into the slopes of Xiangshan and Longmenshan mountains, picturesquely divided by the Yi River.

The scale of this man-made wonder is breathtaking. The complex features more than 2,345 individual grottoes and niches. Inside, visitors can see about 100,000 expertly crafted images of Buddha, bodhisattvas, and other mythological figures. Additionally, more than 40 stone pagodas and nearly 2,800 ancient inscriptions have been preserved here, representing immense historical and cultural value.
The significance of the Longmen Grottoes is recognized internationally—they are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. This complex is rightfully considered one of the three most famous cave temples in China, along with Mogao and Yungang, attracting pilgrims and tourists from all over the world who wish to experience centuries of Buddhist history and art.
