Mbandaka, situated on the banks of the mighty Congo River, welcomes visitors with a classic equatorial climate. Perpetual tropical summer prevails here, with high humidity and stable temperatures that barely change throughout the year. Thanks to its proximity to the equator, the city is lush with greenery, nourished by regular rainfall.

This part of the DRC does not have the typical four seasons. Instead, the calendar year is divided into periods of intense tropical downpours and relatively dry intervals. Travelers should be prepared for a "greenhouse effect," which creates a unique humid jungle atmosphere but requires some acclimatization.

The temperature in Mbandaka is remarkably consistent: the difference between the "coldest" and hottest months is only a couple of degrees. Average daytime temperatures usually fluctuate between +29–32°C, and at night, the thermometer rarely drops below +23°C. The hottest period is considered to be the beginning of the year, especially February and March.

Despite these high figures, extreme heat is rare here; thanks to the proximity to the Congo River and dense forests, the temperature rarely exceeds the +35°C mark. However, it is worth noting that due to high humidity, the real feel can differ from the numbers on the thermometer, creating a "hammam" effect.
