The temple is a prime example of the Dravidian architectural style, so characteristic of South Indian temple complexes. Visitors are greeted by a majestic gopuram—a tall tower over the entrance decorated with intricate carvings. The temple grounds are adorned with numerous mandapas (pavilions), each with its own unique purpose and decorative design, inviting pilgrims and tourists to immerse themselves in an atmosphere of ancient spirituality.
The main deity worshiped in the temple is Thiruvalleeswarar, a form of Shiva. He is revered along with his consort, the goddess Valambigai, an incarnation of Parvati. In addition to the sacred statues of the deities, the temple is famous for its intricately carved stone pillars and sculptures. These works of art depict various Hindu deities, mythological stories, and scenes from epic legends, impressing with their detail and craftsmanship.
