General Weather Overview

Malvan is situated in a tropical climate zone, characterised by warm weather throughout the year. It never gets cold here: even in the "coolest" months, temperatures rarely drop below comfortable levels, whilst average daytime readings consistently stay in the range of +26°C to +29°C. This makes the town an excellent destination for a holiday if you enjoy constant warmth without extreme heat.

Two main periods stand out clearly in the year: the dry season and the monsoon season. From November to May, rain is a rarity here, especially during the winter months and early spring, when the number of rainy days approaches zero. This time is considered the most favourable for a classic beach holiday and sightseeing under clear skies.

With the arrival of June, the weather changes: the wet season begins, lasting roughly until October. During this period, particularly in July and August, the number of days with precipitation rises sharply — it can rain almost daily. Although air temperatures remain high, travellers should be prepared for increased humidity and frequent downpours, which bring coolness and revitalise the local nature.

Temperature

The climate in Malvan is distinguished by enviable stability and tropical warmth all year round. The hottest period falls on the pre-monsoon months — April and May — when the average air temperature reaches 29°C, and daytime highs regularly exceed 31°C. At this time, the weather can feel quite hot; however, the sea breeze helps make the high temperatures more bearable.

The winter season, which lasts from December to February, is incredibly mild and comfortable for travellers here. The concept of "frost" is completely inapplicable to this region of India: even in the coldest month, January, the daytime temperature hovers around 29°C, whilst nights bring only a pleasant freshness as the air cools down to 23°C. This is the ideal time for excursions and beach relaxation without exhausting heat.

A distinctive feature of Malvan's temperature regime is the absence of sharp fluctuations. The difference between day and night readings is minimal, especially during the rainy season (from June to September), when the temperature fluctuates within a very narrow range of 25°C to 27°C. In the dry season, the amplitude increases slightly, reaching 6–7 degrees, which makes evenings pleasant for walks, though you are unlikely to need warm clothing here.

Precipitation

Precipitation in Malvan is distributed extremely unevenly throughout the year, forming two distinct seasons: dry and wet. Winter and early spring are the driest times. From December to April, rain here is a rarity, and rainfall amounts are practically nil. In February, for instance, not a single rainy day is usually recorded, making this period ideal for beach holidays and walks under clear skies.

The weather picture begins to change in May when cloud cover increases, but the true rainy season arrives in summer. The period from June to September is characterised by very frequent rainfall. The wettest month is July: statistics show it can rain every day (up to 31 days with precipitation), although the intensity varies. In August and September, the situation is similar — there are still very many wet days, about 27–30 per month.

The rains gradually cease in autumn. In October, the number of inclement days drops to 20, and by November the rainy season finally fades away, leaving on average only about 5 wet days. Thus, if you wish to avoid the rain, plan your trip for the first half of the year, whilst lovers of tropical humidity and lush greenery will suit the monsoon period.

What to Pack

When packing for Malvan, keep in mind that a warm tropical climate prevails here, so the basis of your luggage should be light and breathable clothing. For the dry season, which lasts from November to May, items made from natural fabrics such as cotton and linen in light shades are ideal. Since daytime temperatures often reach 30°C, be sure to bring sunglasses, a wide-brimmed hat, and high SPF cream to protect yourself from the active Indian sun.

If your trip is planned for the period from June to October, be prepared for the monsoon season, when it can rain almost daily (up to 31 rainy days per month). At this time, you will need a high-quality raincoat, a sturdy umbrella, and waterproof cases for gadgets and documents. It is recommended to opt for clothing made of quick-drying materials, as things take a long time to dry due to the high humidity. Footwear should be comfortable, non-slip, and water-resistant, for example, rubber sandals or Crocs.

Regardless of the season, bring a pair of comfortable closed shoes for excursions and long walks. Although nights here are warm (temperatures rarely drop below 23°C), a light long-sleeved shirt or windbreaker may come in handy for protection against insects in the evenings or air conditioning in transport. Also, do not forget swimwear, as Malvan is famous for its beaches and water activities.
