Fort Aguada is a majestic historical structure and one of the most famous attractions on the coast of India. Located at the mouth of the Mandovi River, near the city of Panaji, this well-preserved Portuguese fort was built in the early 17th century to protect coastal territories from maritime attacks. Today, it is one of the most visited places in Goa, attracting tourists with its rich history and impressive architecture.
The complex is notable for its impressive size and includes massive walls, bastions, and a deep dry moat. On the territory of the upper fortification is one of the highlights of the fort — the oldest lighthouse in Asia, which for centuries served as a landmark for ships. The name "Aguada" translates as "water," as a huge fresh water storage facility was located on the fort's territory for passing ships.
Today, the fort is a popular tourist site offering breathtaking panoramic views of the Arabian Sea. It is a wonderful place for walking, learning about history, and creating unforgettable photos against the backdrop of the ocean and ancient walls.
